New section: SG-1000

Sega Mark III games can go under SMS. Just note in the review if is a Mark III cart.

Agreed since SG-1000 games are a completely different platform.

But don't SG-1000 games run on the Mark III?

Yeah but that's like saying PS1 games run on a PS2.

The Mark 3 is the Japanese Master System with different shaped carts but the same games/code. But the Mark 3 is backwards compatible with the SG-1000 so it runs both SG-1000 games and Sega Mark 3 (Master System) games.

The section should definitely be labelled SG-1000.

It's backwards compatibility, like PS2 running PS1 games, or SMS running on Genesis (with converter, that is really just a pass through to the Z80).

SG-1000 is a distinct platform.

What an awesome site.

Marriott Guy has had an awesome site for many years.

A few years ago it was revamped and merged with another similar site, I wish I remember what it was called.

Thanks for the kind words Gentlegamer. The site you are referencing was Dark Watcher's Console History - he joined our team in 2009 and we merged his excellent content with VGCL. He is an awesome guy and I was thrilled that we could join forces.

Okay so I need a new section for SG-1000, but I should group the Mark III games in with my Sega Master System section as import? That's a little confusing since the Japanese imports won't even hit into an American system.

It's no different to Famicom/NES carts as long as you state in your review its the Mark 3 version.
So yeah the SG-1000 should have its own section and Mark III in with the Master System.
