Teens retro gaming. 360 Back To The Future. Gamestop Score!

Postby matmico399 » February 28th, 2016, 7:50 pm

Hey All,

First I'd like to address the subject of retro gaming with your kids. Mine are all in their teens. My younger daughter who is 16 isn't much of a gamer. She will play once in a while. But my 16 y/o son is a major gamer. I also have two nephews, ages 18 and 14. The 18 y/o likes sports games but not much else. My 14 y/o nephew is like my son, a major gamer. My son likes games all the way back to the NES. I tried showing him my 2600 but I guess the graphics and gameplay were just too simple for him. But he luvs Sega Genesis games! And he always enjoys my SNES, Saturn and Deamcast. He has a PS2 and a Wii U. I recently got Pirates Gold on the Genesis and he couldn't get enough of it. On the other hand my 14 y/o nephew seems to have no interest in retro gaming. My brother called me recently and said his younger son wants to give me his original Wii. Awesome! Now I can play Wii and Gamecube games for free. He is obsessed with his PS4. I just find it striking that two boys of fairly similar age have such different outlooks on retro gaming. Your stories?

Today I picked up Back To The Future On the 360 at Walmart for $20. I've only played it about an hour so far but this game is a trip. Obv I need to play more but from what I have seen this game really captures the spirit of the films. Christopher Lloyd voices Doc Brown and the person voicing Marty McFly sounds just like Michael J. Fox. Although from seeing the previews Fox does make a cameo voice appearance as one of Marty's old relatives. So far this game has been quite good.

Lastly I had a good score on the internet last night. But not on Ebay. My son told me Gamestop was selling older system games online. When I compared what the average was on Ebay to what online Gamestop was selling them for I was astounded. Obv it varies from title to title, but off the Gamestop site here are 4 games I got with prices....

-360 Leisure Suit Larry Box Office Bust-4.99
-Genesis-NBA Jam-2.99
-Dreamcast-House of the Dead 2-7.99
-Dreamcast-Resident Evil:Code Veronica-6.99

Some of these were going for triple the price on Ebay! Gamestop online has a VERY limited collection to the store as most games I was looking up were not available. But it's worth checking out every so often.

Let me know your thoughts.

Give the 14 year old time. He will come around someday. No, don't get me wrong, he will never care about your Atari or your NES or your Genesis. But someday he might just long for the games of his youth, just like you do now. And his retro gaming system of choice? Well, the Playstation 4, of course! Isn't it funny how the definition of retro gaming will be forever evolving....

Matmico - On the surface it's probably hard for him to fathom the value of an Atari 2600 game, since what you see is what you get. I would challenge him to beat your high score in a game like River Raid, Kaboom, or even Breakout. That's where the addictive quality of the classic games comes into play.
