Re: Sega 3D Classics Collection

By quality over quantity, I wasn't referring to the original source material, but rather the job that the compilation developer has done to represent the originals. M2 is easily unrivaled in this regard and the new Mega Man collection from the reborn Digital Eclipse studio is very far from perfection with its range of sometimes terrible audio issues and several other notable problems that so far Capcom has not allowed them to go back and fix.
If there's perfection in the area of classic compilations, M2 has not only reached that level, they've surpassed it with all the added effort beyond the basics that they invest into their projects like the previously mentioned doubling of Outrun's frame rate to 60 for its 3D Classics release. Just about every conceivable bell and whistle is thrown into their releases where as many developers like Digital Eclipse seemingly always stop a bit short of even getting the basics fully implemented in a correct fashion.
So while on a whole only Sonic here can compare to the popularity of the 8 bit Mega Man series, quality over quantity is very much a line that's applicable to this Sega compilation. And I won't try to defend the worth of something like Altered Beast for the 21st century gamer, but every arcade title included here is a bona fide classic that is still entertaining today. Even Puyo Puyo, a member of a genre I've never gotten into, is a beloved classic overseas even though it's little known to us westerners and will likely go unappreciated by most.
