Seriously, I just got one of these and it's the sh*t, awesome device.

It comes with roms and emus preinstalled, but you'll probably want to insert your microsd and play your own. Odd choice of games: Conkers Bad Fur Day among them.

It looks and feels like a 3ds xl at first. The dpad is nice, like they straight squashed a Wiipro or DSlite pad into the thing. The buttons feel good, some might call them mushy, they feel like early ps1 asciipad buttons to me. Shoulder buttons are a straight swap of the new 3ds xl layout and have clickety feel. The analogs are small and feel kinda loose, but they are quality, not slidepads or whatever.

User friendly as well as a wonder for android emulation experts. You are capable of 2600, Coleco,NES,GB,GBC,GBA,DS,N64, SNES,SG1000,SMS,Genesis,Sega CD,32x,DC,Turbografx,PS1,PSP, just to name a few. There's Speccy, Amiga, ST, scummvs, Dosbox etc for those into classic computer gaming. All in a little 3DS looking portable android emu device. Hdmi out to hook on the big screen.

Anybody know of grips or a cover for this thing? The 3DS xl design isn't ergonomic, at all.

The last few years have seen many of these Android based handhelds with buttons, sometimes sold as Personal Media Players. We've also seen less portable Android systems like the Ouya and the Retron 5 (which uses format shifting). The HDMI out is interesting here as it navigates that same market "portable/console hybrid" space the Nintendo NX is anticipated to try to navigate as well.

Wow, what timing! I just bought one of these last weekend from Craigslist. The seller had only had it for a month, enjoyed it, but needed to sell a bunch of his games/systems because of financial hardship. Felt bad for the dude, but got the GPD XD for $100.

Problem is, I don't really know what to do with the thing! Normally I would have spent a bunch of time researching how to add emulators and Roms and which emulators are the best, etc. I havent done any of that. The games included have been really cool, but obviously I want to know how to it the thing to use.

This looks pretty darn cool. I might retire my modded PSP for this. I noticed the reviews haven't mentioned slow down and things like that. Do the games run smoothly and at full speed? What emulators have you tried?

I've been spending alot of time with this thing and it's amazing. No slowdown or frameskips with any of the emulators I tried. Had Ikaruga for Dreamcast running smooth as silk. Conkers Bad Fur Day looked really good with all of the texture enhancements. Crash Bandicoot never looked better on epsxe. Saturn, Jaguar, and 3DO(retroarch) are still horrible with speed/framerate.

I don't know of any how-to guides, I just learned the ins and outs of droid emulation through research and experimentation. It's really as easy as finding the emus from the Playstore and installing them. There's alot of junky ones though. If you want the (best) emulators I use, I don't have a problem telling. Or if you need help with extracting files, where to put them and any BIOS files, I can guide you in the right direction.

No need for a computer. There are other apps that let you do what you need. Such as Ecm Indexer for ps1 games. 7zipper for any files that need unzipped or moved around. Unipatcher if you want to apply a translation patch or hack to the rom.

This thing also has a usb port to plug a controller in if you want. I experimented with Rayman(ps1) using a Saturn controller via usb adaptor on my flat screen. Ran fine. Could probably get some multiplayer action going.
