Kudos to The Critic on the first anniversary of the New Forums.

Thanks for the sentiments Scotland, although I'm still trying to forget those first weeks getting the new boards up and running. I remember they were slow as heck and I was frantically trying to smooth things out. It required quite a bit of effort but now things are running fine, thanks largely to our team of moderators.

So for those of us not in the know, what was the forum previously like? As far as I can tell they go back to 2006 so I imagine a year ago was not the first update... or was it?

I used to use a service to host my message boards separately from the site. At first it was convenient and cheap. But after a few years I wanted more features and more control. Then last year they began raising my rates drastically so I knew I had to jump ship. Now I host everything myself which requires some maintenance but saves money.

I'm sure I speak for many when I say all the hard work and maintenance is very much appreciated!

Congrats on the first year! The new forums have had a lot of updates in the last year and look great. Not nearly the spam that was encountered at first and the speed issue got fixed with your updates. Thanks for everything!
