Storybundle books

Postby scotland » May 6th, 2016, 9:28 am

Storybundle currently has 2 bundles that may interest retro gaming fans:

1) Boss Fight Bundle with books on : Chrono Trigger, Jagged Alliance 2, Super Mario Bros 2, Bible Adventures, Baldurs Gate II, Earthbound, ZZT, Galaga, Metal Gear Solid, and Shadow of the Colossus.

2) Nerd History Bundle: Books mostly on early computer days with books on Microsoft, Google, Bill Gates, the rise and fall of the PC, the TRS-80, and "Terrible Nerd" that hits on adventures in computers in the 80s and 90s.

I do not endorse any of these, but if they tickle your fancy, check out reviews on Amazon. With the rise of e-books, there are a lot more genre books available, but they tend toward being personal accounts and experiences, and in want of a good editors and fact checkers. I've purchased a number of these book bundles, and its rather hit or miss, but for the price, I keep going back. Storybundle works like other bundles, where a few dollars buys a few things, and for about $15 you usually can get the whole bundle.

Storybundle has a another gaming focused collection of e-books:
https://storybundle.com/games

Verb/Ose - an exploration into the Point and Click genre
Kobold Guide to Worldbuilding - about what it says on the tin for things like RPGs
Trigger Happy 2.0 - about some of the politics of making video games
Making Fun - stories from developers
Gamedev stories - more stories from developers
Boss Fight Books - Final Fantasy V
Retro Game Super Translation - about some classic lines and how they were localized
Good Luck Have Fun - esports
Somebody set us up the ROM - about Rom hacks

The quality of these books have been highly variable in the past. Some are well researched and well put together, others have been less than garbage in being misleading and only tangentially about what they said they were about (lying is even worse than just being bad).
