I know military FPS are wearing out their welcome to some degree. But I just recently watched the trailer for Battlefield 1.

I am a huge history buff, esp regarding both The World Wars. Finally a WWI game. I've always wondered by this War has always gotten such little coverage in games. The setting is perfect with trench warfare, gas attacks, barbed wire, bi planes etc. Finally some is doing it on a major scale. I am pumped!

It is a good setting, from Mata Hari to Gallipoli to Lawrence of Arabia to the Red Baron to the Somme to Jutland. Over the top boys!

Valiant Hearts is a well received mobile title to look at.

There have been games like Wings from the Amiga and later PC, and the C64 critic did The Blue Max recently, and maybe the Young Indiana Jones games has some WWI action, but its certainly not well traveled country for video games. Maybe this is due to America's limited role. Wonder if there are some WWI themed Speccy games out there.

There have been quite a few through the years, but not too many mainstream titles have touched on this conflict. Nice to see DICE stepping away from the boredom inducing modern warfare angle and revisit a historical setting.

I wish there would be more than just battleships though. I miss the naval battles possible in Battlefield 1942 years ago. Need some cruisers, destroyers, and maybe even a return of submarines. Perhaps even a seaplane tender to provide an equivalent for an aircraft carrier (HMS Argus, the world's first, was commissioned in late 1918 and was too late to see any action).

Toss in some landing craft as well. Gallipoli was the first major amphibious landing and heavily influenced military doctrine during WWII.

And if they haven't already mentioned them, we need some Zeppelins to carry out bombing raids with. :)

I wish we'd get more of these. I also miss the World War 2 games. I can only play Medal of Honor so many times.

The Germans had a lot of veterans from World War 1 get drafted into the Volksturm at the end of World War 2 due to manpower shortages in the Wehrmacht. Imagine fighting in both of the World Wars.

Im sure there are but I can't bring any to mind also I'm working too many hours at the moment to be bothered to check lol.

Also you need to take into account us Brits can be very sensitive about the war. Any inkling of a game being deemed disrespectful could cause a national outcry. Especially in the 80's with us fighting the Falklands war so most publishers probably avoided the risk.

There was a rather excellent ST/Amiga game called Lost Patrol based on the Vietnam war. It was a strategy/action hybrid with your mission to get your lost patrol back safely. You had to choose various routes, manage rations, manage rest and sleep really deep but accessible game.

Looks like a really cool game. I have no interest in getting any of the new consoles, but if I did I would get this game for sure.

I like history, and I like adventures in historical settings. Be nice to have more settings like Napoleonic wars, the American Revolution, the English Civil War, the Norman Invasion...

However, watching the hyper violence in that trailer set me aback. Anyone think that was over the top violence?

Not to me scotland. It' war. No way to put a pretty picture on it. And being the second deadliest conflict in human history I thought the trailer captured it well. Although so many died agonizing deaths I hope the game shows all the horrors regarding gas attacks and flame throwers. Is should be a fun game, but show all the misery a soldier in the trenches faced.
