Restore Points?

I was playing Donkey Kong Country 2 (one of my old favorites) on the Wii U Virtual Console a few days ago, and I realized they implemented a new feature into it. Now you can make restore points, which are like save states on a computer game. Basically, you can save your game anytime, anywhere, and then reload it to that exact spot whenever you want. DKC2 is a pretty tough game in later stages, and I've found myself making restore points in the middle of levels and then loading them back up every time I die so that I can keep retrying the really hard parts until I get past it, at which point I make a new restore point. I don't even lose a life when I die that way! I actually feel kind of bad for playing that way, though. They didn't have restore points in the original game, so I'm pretty much cheating by doing this. What do you think? Is it okay to cheat like that, or is it better to play the game the way the developers intended?

If I were 10 again with no job and an entire summer to practice than my view might change. But with a job, wife, and baby...any advantage is certainly A.O.K. in my book.

I usually try and limit save states for end of levels and boss fights.
So I make myself play an entire level before saving. It's like my own personal 'honour' system, it could be argued I'm still cheating but hey time is limited.

I've definitely used Save States in the past... Nowadays if I use them I usually use it with some rules, instead of using save states religiously to cheat myself through the game... like at the start of a dungeon or start of the level, before a boss fight, or something like that. I don't see any issue using them... It's really up to the person to decide what is fair and what isn't, that is the nice part about solo gaming sometimes, the only critic is yourself.

Tried using them on the Wii U Virtual Console to beat Ghots n' Goblins, and I still can't get very far!
