Trying to remember an arcade racing game from the 80s,

Postby matmico399 » June 6th, 2016, 6:55 pm

If I remember correctly there was an arcade game from the 1980's that was a racing game with an overhead view. Similar to Rally X. But not only could your car lay smoke when being chased, but it seems to me you could drop oil behind your car and it had a few other gadgets as well. It's not Spy Hunter. Does this ring a bell to anyone? It's possible it could be Rally X, but it just seems to me there were a lot more gadgets than just smoke. Thanks!

I was hoping someone would answer this for you.

An overhead view makes it pretty early, basically golden age arcade. There was a sequel to Rally X, but its not very different and I think it only has smoke. Its not Bump and Jump. Its not The Battle Road or RC Pro Am. Spy Hunter, with its Peter Gunn theme is so memorable there is not much to confuse it with. I rather enjoy Roadblasters as a sort of next generation Spy Hunter, but its got the over the shoulder view Turbo and Pole Position made popular.

Hope you find it.

Overhead racers actually were still pretty commonplace in the arcades of the early 1990's. Super Off-Road, Badlands, Indy Heat, Great 1000 Mile Rally, Mille Miglia, and all of the NeoGeo racers leap to mind as appearing during this time (Although some utilized a isometric overhead perspective to aid the illusion of 3D, like Zaxxon pioneered). .

wow. I guessed I missed alot of fun arcade games in tbe 1990s. I worked in an arcade in the 80s, but by the 90s, I visited much less. I am sure I missed a lot.

How about a thread on your favorite 1990s arcade games? I would love to learn more.
