Forum Slowness Update

Postby VideoGameCritic » July 4th, 2016, 11:57 am

I was hoping that the slowness would subside over time but these forums are still barely useable, and still seeing the 504 Gateway Timeout on occasion.

I'm pretty technical but I haven't been able to figure this one out. The RPG Critic helped me set the forums up so I'm going to enlist his help, although he's tough to track down this time of year. Hopefully it will be back to normal in the next week or two.

Thanks for the update. The forums have seemed a little better over the last few days as things are seeming to load quicker for me (before I kept getting timed out). Hopefully this gets fixed in the near future.

Critic I am glad you are aware. I think that's why the forum page has had so little activity. I was going to email you about it but it timed out. Happily the rest of the site works great! Happy 4th!

Well, actually 'the rest of the site' does not work great. There are odd issues like the Reader Voting Stats panel on the home page. Press a button, and random things happen. Go ahead and try. Say you want "SNES", so go through the menu for SNES...whatever happens, it probably won't be a SNES page that comes up. Weird, huh? Something is buggy in Script town.

This might offer a clue to what's going on with the forums.

Actually that was another problem that I was able to fix. Not related to the slowness.
But thanks for bringing it to my attention.
We'll get to the bottom of this.

I've been working on the forum slowness problem that's made the forums almost unusable over the past few weeks. Today I upgraded my database server because I thought low memory might be the problem, and I think that might have done the trick. Right now things are looking snappy.

So far so good for today. The forum is going lightening fast today and I've had zero issues. Thanks for all your hard work to bring the forums back to life.
