If Excitetruck is a better game than Diddy Kong Racing, it's an awesome, awesome game.
Except it isn't, even if this guy is normally an idiot he happens to be right on this one.  There is no way you could not get bored with excite trucks after an hour.  It's simple and limited, with even less racing skill involved than mario kart.  Half of the wiis launch games have tech demo written all over them.  And it's worth mentioning that the game biz is as profitable as it is not because of casual gamers.  Quite the contrary, it because it has so many dedicated buyers.  If the whole community was only casual gamers that buy 3 games a year it would die.  They may show up in droves to buy madden, zelda, GTA but that's it they are not the life blood of the industry.  The guy who buys 12 games a month is.

Wii Launch - Guess Ratings

I just read the review for Tony Hawk's Downhill Jam.  The game received a score of 7.0 on ign.  This wasn't really a title that I cared a whole lot about, but again they stated that the game felt sort of sloppy and rushed for launch.  I didn't really have much interest in this game to begin with and I probably won't even rent it.

That's true Shawn (Mr. AnythingbutNintendo), but I don't think I've said one game that I havn't played is better than some other game I havn't played.  I don't think Excitetruck is a great game, but people seem to be writing off every game in the launch lineup just because a few aren't great or havn't reviewed as good.  That's just the way it is, folks.  Some games are good, some are not.  Otherwise this site would be really boring.

I am definitely pushing for the Wii to succeed, partially because I think the industry needs something new like this, and partially because I think it's a great control scheme that could be really successful if properly used.  I hate to see people being so pre-release critical because that hurts the chances of a system that, even if every launch game isn't a perfect "10", could end up providing some absolutely amazing games over time.  I just don't want to jump on the whole "Excitetruck is not that great, and a couple other games have gotten mediocre reviews, so basically the system is a failure." bandwagon.  I see no problem with rooting for a system that I think has amazing potential.

People were awefully critical of the 360 at first, for a few reasons, and it's turned out to be a good system.  Let's at least let the Wii get released before we bash it.

First of all, Saturn you are an immature fool.

Ok, I have been thinking that it really doesn't matter, does it! People are going to buy the Wii, 360 and the PS3 no matter what any of us think. At the end of the day the Wii isn't for me but neither was the DS (I sold mine) but look! Nintendo is selling millions of them! Now I don't think Nintendo is going to gain the market share that they have with the DS. Particularly b/c when the DS launched it was the only handheld system out there outside of the GBA. Obviously, they have much more competition in this realm.

After I bashed Excite Truck I got thinking of the time I bought Full Auto for the 360. I bought it after I read the VGC's review, who was basically the only person that had anything good to say about it. When I bought it the clerk was like "dude, this game sucks". I bought it anyway of course and loved the game. It is one of my favorite 360 games for sure.

So basically what I am driving at is that I hated ExciteBike...so did "SaturnChild X" but you may love it. Buy the system, buy the games, if  you love them, great, if not how well there is always Zelda and the other N-Franchises.
