Best remake of a classic game

hey guys, I was wondering what your favorite remake of a classic game was? I'll tell you what I mean. A classic game from Atari or any older system re-imagined for a modern system. For example, the critic reviewed defender, which was released as a 3d shooter on ps2, xbox, and gamecube in 2002. Pong and asteroids were also remade on ps1, as well as pitfall, which was titled Pitfall 3d: beyond the jungle. All of which the critic reviewed.

So what your favorite classic games to be remade? as a fan of puzzle type games and platformers, I'd have to say frogger. There is frogger beyond for xbox, ps2, and gamecube, and frogger 2, swampy's revenge on dreamcast. I'm currently playing Frogger's adventures: temple of the frog on Game Boy advance, and I've put a lot of time into it. It's a lot of fun to keep coming back to, and challenging as well. The game is very well-made, in my opinion. picture the classic frogger game play with spikes, conveyors, and moving platforms. I love it. They can take a simple, everyday thing like a frog crossing the road, and make it a lot of fun.

An example of a more recent game to be remade is NFL blitz. It had a downloadable version on ps3. It was a good game for what it was, but lacked a lot of the fun from the original. Also, not really an official "game," but a bonus game I guess you could say; the newer NHL games have an NHL '94 anniversary edition. Also OK, but not as fun as the original. I guess these games weren't really meant to be played on such big screens.

So, think of how these games try to be faithful to the older ones. Frogger maintains the gameplay, but expands upon it very well. The sports games I mentioned also do that, but take away a lot of the fun in the process.

Galaga '88 on TG16 was best remake of a classic game. Somehow they took a great game and made it perfect!

I thought Spy Hunter had a pretty solid remake. That defender was also pretty great, and you can still find it for about $5 or less. Resident Evil and Metal Gear Solid both had awesome remakes on the GameCube. Of course Duck Tales Remastered was nice, and then there was Asteroids remake that came out in the early 90's. I really enjoyed that one.

I'm prob in the minority on this as I have seen recent posts. But one of my fave games on the PS1 was Resident Evil 1. I played that constantly back in the late 90's until I finally beat it. I bought it back about a year ago to enjoy it again. I just couldn't get into it much. I guess I was spoiled by RE4 on the PS2. About 6 months ago I got a GameCube with RE1 included. The remade RE has my blood pumping again. The voice acting and graphics are night and day. Plus there are more surprises and more action. I will def take the GameCube remake over the original in this day and time.

Metroid Zero Mission (GB Advance), which is a remake of the original Metroid (NES).

The original Metroid is great and all and can still be rewarding to play to this day for anyone who is willing to create their own map and copy down long passwords, but Zero Mission is great for lazy bastards such as myself who want the game to do all that work for them.

Not sure if it qualifies as a "remake" considering how different it is from the source material, but Pac-Man Championship Edition DX kicks a ridiculous amount of ass (the original Championship Edition is good as well, though the recent Championship Edition 2 jumped the shark somewhat). Space Invaders Extreme 1&2 and Infinity Gene are also excellent, even though the latter diverges quite a ways from the original formula.

I agree with a lot of what has already been said. I also enjoyed the castle of illusion remake which I think, unfortunately, has been delisted.

Resident Evil is by far my favorite reboot. I still love the original, don't get me wrong, but when that one launched I was at the store the day it came out. Following it up with Zero and then 4, my GameCube had me in survival horror heaven.

Tempest 2000 on the Atari Jaguar. It took a classic game and made it even better.

That was one of the first games I had for the Jag, and man that was awesome. Its actually one of the main reasons I want to buy a Jaguar again.
