The Video Game Critic

While reviewing Assault Suit Leynos my friend Scott mentioned this was one of the worst game titles he's seen.

This gave me the idea to put together a list of the worst game NAMES of all time.

Two others that comes to mind are Irritating Stick (PS1) and Black Hole Assault (Sega CD) (no relation to each other by the way).

Game titles that are ridiculously long would be good candidates as well.

What do you think? Can you name any candidates for this list??

That line about Irritating Stick and Black Hole Assault being unrelated was great.

I don't think Assault Suit Leynos is a bad title at all. Just searching indie game titles brings up Nidhogg, Thomas was Alone, VVVVVV. Try saying some of these out loud. ask someone. Hey, have you ever played Papers, Please?

Plumbers don't wear ties might be a bad enough title.

OTOH, I think Melty Blood is pretty awesome - it sounds both gross and hilariously Engrish.

In the same vein as Xexyz, there's also Xexex (an obscure shmup with awesome graphics for its time). How do you even pronounce that? Zeckszecks?

Call of Duty Infinite warfare springs to mind as a terrible title. if it was infinite it would go on forever but this is cod so it must last about 4 to 5 hours... hardly infinite... should have called it finite war!

I always thought that Mr. Bones was a really crap name, it sounds so goofy. Parappa the Rapper was also a dumbass name. And Um Jammer Lammy, really?

Cool name for a Panzer Dragoon sequel: Panzer Dragoon Zwei.

Reasonable idea: Clarify things for people who don't know German.

Good graphic design: On the box, stick a "II" in the background behind the actual title in a different color so people don't get confused.

Bad graphic design: In the game, put it right into the title graphic on the start screen, renaming the game to Panzer Dragoon 2: Two.

Bad name for a Panzer Dragoon sequel: That one.

I can think of two.

1. Final Fantasy. There's, like, fifteen of them, not counting direct sequels and unnumbered games like Tactics and Chocobo's Dungeon.

2. Touch my Katamari (PS Vita). That name just sounds... ewww.
