I agree... but just to play devil's advocate, I'll say that sometimes you have to be careful what you wish for. If you posed this question 10 years ago, I would definitely say NiGHTS into Dreams, since it's one of my top 5 favorite games ever. Well those wishes were answered with Nights: Journey of Dreams on the Wii and the game was terrible and made me think less of the franchise. Sega has tons of great IPs from the 80s and 90s, but I don't trust them to execute good versions of them nowadays. But at the same time, I'll take a bad version of NiGHTS (or whatever else) rather than the franchise just vanishing. At least now I never have to wonder "What if...?"

Here is one obscure one that should return someday, it is Floigan Bros. which originated on the Sega Dreamcast, was a very original/creative game that flopped because it came out near the end of the Sega Dreamcast, it does prove this company does not have a good track recorded with old IP's if its name is not Sonic and that is it!

The sad thing about Floigan Bros is it's full title is Floigan Bros: Episode 1. And that's the only Episode!

They should always name games Part 1 or Episode 1, just in case there's a sequel. ;)

Back on topic, it takes lots of money to develop a new entry in a franchise. Sega doesn't have the cash to risk developing a new entry in a series that hasn't been in the limelight for 5+ years. It usually doesn't work well anyways; look at the attempts to bring back Atari's franchises, or Frogger. Not how I want it, but there's nothing I can do to change it.

The modern AAA video game market will have crash/change before Sega could have any reasonable chance to make a comeback, particularly resurrecting their classic IPs in some modern forms.

Even great modern mid-level games Sega just published, such as Vanquish and Bayonetta (developed by Platinum), didn't hit well enough to justify funding sequels. Nintendo funded Bayonetta 2 as a Wii U exclusive.

I would have to agree that Sega has tons of great series they could tap into. Sometimes they will bring back something and it turns out great and other times they completely fumble. Sega is so inconsistent but I'd rather them take chances then get nothing at alL. I would love another pander Dragoon title or another jet grind radio.

Yeah I'll admit that the first thing I thought of when I started my response was how i would have answered Nights if they hadn't already tried bringing that back and failing spectacularly. One would think that it would be difficult to fail with a new Panzer Dragoon. It's just an in-rails shooter so all you have to do to please the fans is have nice graphics and the same core gameplay as before. I thought the same thing about Star Fox though...

I take it Sonic has had a few good games in modern times, but mostly bad/terrible. Now imagine that was one of the other older Sega franchises being pumped out. I don't think we want that.

I'd like to see Comix Zone have another go.

It's nice to see old Sega franchises like Toejam and Earl, Shenmue and Wonder Boy being given a chance though even if some of them aren't using Sega's help.

I can't believe noone has said Zaxxon.

There was actually Zaxxon Escape for Android a few years ago, but it wasn't that good, and played totally different... I'd like to see a new one, either in isometric style, or maybe as sort of a Star Fox clone. (Or maybe you could toggle between viewpoints and have both...)

Personally, I'd love to see another Panzer Dragoon. The recent Xbox One launch game certainly wasn't as good as actual Panzer Dragoon games.

And if we're on our wish list, I'd love to see a Panzer Dragoon Saga remix/redo. I finally got a copy (burned) and means to play it and am itching to try it out. Now, I just need time to dig out my Saturn and find some time to give it a go.

This is a great post and borders on the idea of games making transitions from 2d to 3d. Sure, we would love to see more installments in these SEGA franchises, but maybe it should be a case of "careful what you wish for." As the critic said in a review of the genesis collection for ps2, SEGA was on fire. To expect to make great installments of those games now would probably be a lot to ask. Even with how great Sonic was, the recent efforts have not nearly been as good, and some might say terrible...
