I give up on Sega

Postby Superjay » November 18th, 2006, 10:51 am

I bought Phantasy Star Universe around my birthday on November 11 and I have given this game evry chance I could possibly give. I loved and adored PSO. I have been disgusted by Sega's offerings for awhile. Despite it's hype I hated  Virtua Fighter for the PS2 and most sega games for the xbox sucked also. They used to be the kings of graphics. What happened. Sonic looks like pure trash and now PSU is horrible. Believe it or not the graphics are worse in PSU than in PSO. You can't play the online game offline. Because Sega is using there own crappy servers I get the most lag I have ever gotten in a game. It takes me half an hour just to log in because the Server won't connect then when I am on the lag goes from bad to are you serious bad. I'm hitting monsters and the hits don't register until like 3 minutes later. I am not exagerating. I'm also playing by myself not in a group of 6 people. Horrible. I'm selling this POS and I'm not getting another Sega game unless they are bought out by another company that knows hows to run a business because Sega clearly is clueless. PSU was the only MMO I ever liked I guess I'll have to wait tilee 2008 when the Marvel MMO comes out for 360. What do you guys think about Sega?

The day they stopped making consoles is pretty close to the day they stopped making good games.  My guess is that their last hit franchise (Super Monkey Ball), was in development, or at least thought up, when they were still making the Dreamcast.  They made some good games after that, but they didn't make any more "Sega" games.  Look at Nights, Sonic 1,2,3, & Knuckles, Shinobi, Revenge of Shinobi, Panzoor Dragoon Saga, even Sonic Adventure, and compare that to Shadow to see where they've fallen.

Sega has released some fairly recent games that I enjoy. Their weakness seems to be sequals. FEEL THE MAGIC (DS) was pretty much the BEST DS launch title. I love that game, but RUB RABBITS was terrible. The first SONIC DASH (GBA) was not bad...not as good as the first 3 sonic games, but better than SONIC AND KNUCKLES. I liked THAT, but the following DASH games were tired retreads. I also like SONIC MEGA COLLECTION PLUS, I play it often (although maybe that doesn't count, being a collection of old games..)
anyway, I would encourage SEGA to come up with more ORIGINAL games like FTM. They clearly are not in the same leauge as nintendo when it comes to decent sequals!

I have to agree that Sega lost their edge once they got out of the hardware industry.  Sega produced a lot of innovative Dreamcast titles, but since then they've been lost in the noise.  They can't seem to capitalize on their franchises.  The recent Sonic games lack innovation, and they've totally ignored old favorites like Streets of Rage, Golden Axe, and Altered Beast.  It seems to me that if Sega brought back some of these with classic 2D gameplay and updated visuals, they would be great.  But they need to ensure the level of quality is at least on par with Nintendo.

I've bought more Sega titles since the Dreamcast died than I did during the DC's life, I think I'm happy with them.

Jet Set Radio Future

Outrun 2
OutRun 2006: Coast 2 Coast

Sega GT 2002

Sega Classics Collection

Sega Genesis Collection

Sonic Gems Collection

Sonic Mega Collection Plus

Super Monkey Ball Deluxe

Haven't played JSRF yet and wasn't pleased with Sega GT, otherwise these are all excellent titles.

Wow, your list really reinforces my argument.  The games are good, but each one is just a repackaged old game.  Certain franchises are absolutely beaten to death, and there's no innovation at all.

Sadly, but they're still some excellent games from them being released. There is some good original stuff on there however in the form of Super Monkey Ball Deluxe (Repackaged, but still current generation titles), and the two Outrun titles.

The new Sonic game for 360 got a 5.5 on 1up. Sonic Heroes got a 5.75 on 1up, though, and that game wasn't awful. My guess is the new one is about a 6 or 7. I'm really rooting for the Wii Sonic, but I can't see it having much depth. I'm guessing it will be like some of the launch titles. Fun gameplay, but not enough to do; my guess is 6.5-7.

Sega is horrible. They used to make some of the best arcade games ever and there games would always dominate graphically and gameplay wise. PSU feels like I got slapped in the face every time I play it online. This game looks horrible graphically. I think they are using a Dreamcast board and even that's not getting fully utilized. How does my 56k modem in my Dreamcast get less lag than my cable enabled 360.. just horrible.

Yeah, "Super Monkey Ball" isn't anything other than the arcade game "Monkey Ball" with some additional party games (hence the "Super" prefix). The original Monkey Ball was released in 2000.
