Christmas Games

Postby VideoGameCritic » November 26th, 2006, 12:47 pm

The other day I played the first video game I can recall that has anything to do with Christmas - The Grinch for the Dreamcast.

Believe it or not, it's not a bad game.  Sure, it's a little rough around the edges, but I'd rate it about average.  I really like the holiday theme.

The only other Christmas game I have is that special holiday version of Nights, which I plan to review soon.  Is there anything about this disk I should know about?  Does its gameplay change as December 25 approaches?

If anyone else can recommend any more Christmas games let me know.

Dave

I got some interesting results by entering "christmas" into the www.gamefaqs.com search engine. Apparently there are "Nightmare Before Christmas" games for GBA, PS2 and XBOX. There's also "Father Christmas" for Saturn and "Daze Before Christmas" for SNES and Genesis.

And finally, there's "Christmas Seaman" for Dreamcast and "Bravo Music: Christmas Edition" for PS2.

There was a planned game for the Intellivision that had a Christmas theme:

I think you can play it on emulators (what is completed anyway), the ROM is out there.

There are a couple of special date : http://www.gamefaqs.com/console/saturn/code/573937.html

Good sampler that game though it's a bit costly on eBay these days considering it was free initially.

Not really a christmas game but Computer and Video Game magazine made a christmas mod for Quake that put Santa hats and outfits on all the enemies, replaced the gibs with presents and did the rottweiler's up as reindeer.  Very cool.

Didn't Sonic Adventure also have a Christmas level?

There's also a fairly rare game for the GBA called Santa Clause, and of course The Polar Express for all new consoles.

Why don't you just change the date on your Saturn and see? I know the disk has some little bonuses you can unlock, and I'm pretty sure you can get some on Christmas and New Years.

James Pond II: Robocod is a typical Christmas game. Not spectacular though, just alright.

..I know you don't have old computers, critic, but the very first Xmas game (I think) was for the Texas Instruments 99/4A....SAINT NICK! Santa had to pick up presents in a maze while avoiding a witch and elves. (I'm really dating myself.... but it's cheaper then dating a girl right now! (

HAPPY HOLIDAZE!
