For single player, I'd have to go with the 64 version--the course were such a dramatic improvement and brought the game to another level.  I'm not all about graphics, but I admit, it did make a difference.

For multiplayer, I'd say the original (SNES).  With the exception of Goldeneye (and beating Smash Bros), this was probably my most player game with friends.  The courses were flat, which made it easier to locate people, and the mighty feather was perfect for narrow escapes.

NOTE:  I have yet to play the DS version, but it will be my next purchase without a doubt.

The ds version without a doubt, is the best. I actually hated the snes version, I thought the control was terrible to the point were trying to stay on the track gave me motion sickness. Double dash is good too, but the cars are too slow. I played the n64 version via emulator, but not enough to judge it.

The cars were too slow in double dash? They were faster than they are in the DS Mario Kart. For me I have to say it is a tough choice. I have yet to play multiplayer or online with Mario Kart DS, but it wins for single player. It has 16 new courses, plus 16 old courses. Then you add on the mission mode, unlockable cars and characters, time trials, and the ability to play battle with the computer and you have a really lenghty game. For multiplayer I used to go with Mario Kart 64, but after playing Double Dash enough I have trouble going back to it. I was never a fan of the original SNES Mario Kart, but I don't like many older racers.

Double Dash!! easily remains the best Mario Kart in my eyes. At least for multiplayer, I don't play single player often.

Although the GBA version is alot tougher especially in the higher CC's, but Double Dash blows any of them away especially in Multi Player, no so much with 3 or 4, but 2 people is great fun.  Basically double dash takes what would be similar to any other kart racer and adds stragey to weapon use and character selection.

Having never before played a Mario Kart game in my life I recently purchased DD, and to tell you the truth, I'm dissapointed. It's not that I don't like the genre either – I'm a huge racing fan, and also a Nintendo fan – but I just found the courses really dull. I was expecting more refrence to old Nintendo games, moving contraptions, bridges, tunnells, short-cuts, etc. Also, the actual racing really could be faster, even in 250 cc. It's still fun, but just kind of feels...empty, even in multiplayer. It's not a laugh-out-loud party game like I was expecting.

The DS version was by far the best, IMO.

It was just the most fun

The Super Nintendo version. The DS version was the biggest disappointment of the series for me.

I can think of a single level in Double Dash that has moving contraptions, bridges, tunnels, and shortcuts. There are plenty of those. My personal favorite levels were DK Mountain and the Dinosaur level. The dinosaur level has a few shortcuts in it, and DK Mountain has boulders rolling along the mountain.

I think the SNES version blows chunks and the 64 version was amazing. Goes to show that critics suck. (Double Dash was pretty cool, but not as addictive as 64)

FUNK
