Light as a Limited Resource?

What do you guys think about games that take place in dark environments, and you have a limited supply of light? I've been playing Amnesia: the Dark Descent, and I'm finding myself a little more irritated than afraid. I get that things are scarier in the dark, but to me at least a game stops being fun when you can't see where you're freaking going. I used up all my lantern oil early in the game, and now I'm stumbling around in the dark unable to see anything. Everyone said the storage room was the scariest part of the game, but the only thing scary about it is how long I spent walking with my face pressed against the wall because I couldn't find the door I was supposed to go through.

I definitely have a pet peeve for unrealistic things like that. Sort of like barriers. I would actually prefer an invisible wall keeping me from leaving the level than a bunch of bushes or a small fallen tree trunk keeping me from leaving the area. I know they have to do it, but with games being as realistic as they are now, it's like a punch in the gut of the reality that you are only playing a game...
