question about Sega CD expansion module

Postby Totoro » December 12th, 2006, 12:51 pm

Perhaps someone can help me.

I have recently paid for a Sega CD expansion module 1.
However, no documentation was sold with it.

It would be very kind if someone could explain to me how I
have to connect this expansion to the Genesis and the expansion
to
the tv...

Furthermore, how do I put the power on ? I do not see any power on
button.

thank you very much in advance.

Best regards,

There should be cables galore that came with it.  What generation of Genesis do you have?  Your Genesis should snap on top of it if you've got the Sega CD with the slide out tray.  There will also be a seperate power supply.

Without dragging mine out, someone else can help but I seem to recall there's a video out on the genesis that connects to the sega cds and from there it goes to the tv (or that piece of the puzzle is due to the 32x).  If no one else can answer I'll drag mine out and take a gander tomorrow evening.

It's Myazaki's totoro indeed...

I have the Sega CD with the slide out tray.

I don't even see a button to open the tray...

Thank you very much for your help.

I had a Sega Cd with slide out tray once. The buttons on the controller open and close the tray. The unit just says "POWER"
If I recall. There was an RF interferance metal "board" you sat on top of the Sega Cd, and as far as I know you simply removed the cover from the Genesis' expansion port in the back and slid it into the unit until it "clicked" in. That's it! but that was with the very FIRST genesis. There are several models. Also, a later model CD hooked up to the SIDE. If you have differing makes and models, you MAY need a peripheral cable. MAY. As I said I only had experience with the first Genesis and first Sega CD.

Thank you Actraiser and Alienblue,

So now I have the response for the tray.

Just one thing I would like to make clearer:

Even if I play with a sega cd game, the only console that is connected to the tv is the Genesis. Right ?

As the Genesis is on the top of the Sega CD (I have the very first one model), I don't have to connect the Sega CD to the Genesis ?

Thanks to both of you again for your help.

Tortoro (no relation to Tantaro, who plauged poor GROO are you?)
you need to hook the sega Cd up to the Genesis. On the old Genesis and Sega CD- you have a sliding tray so you have an old CD, I dunno what model Genesis you have- but anyway you slid the genny into the top of the Sega Cd and connected them with a quick click. Then you are right, you just hook the Genny up as usual. With a cart in the genesis, the Genesis comes on on power up. With NO CART in the genny, the CD automaticaly comes on.

Did you get a box, instructions, software? My Sega CD came with Sherlock Holmes, Sol-Duece (shooter) 5 Sega classic games and two music cds (one CD+graphics). But then I paid $400 for it new!

Hope this helps!

If not, I will come back to you.

Thank you again.

Sorry, Totoro, me-um think heap big TONTO me think.

Anyway, the happy news is you won't need a game to know if it works. With no cart in the genesis and no CD in the Sega CD, the CD still comes on with an impressive "Scaling logo" demo. You can also play CDs on it, so try one.

Hope it works, good luck!
