Arcade game help!

Can anyone help me with the name of this game! I am starting an arcade collection and remember it well but can't remember the name.

 

It was an arcade game in the late 80's, you fought your way through interesting screens and decent amounts of foes by using different characters. If you died your character turned into a tiny statue and you could rescue him by using another character (assuming the one that died wasn't the last one) and picking up the statue and getting across a line towards the end of the screen.

 

It was a vertical screen, you started at the bottom and had to fight your way across the finish line and all the characters that made it across you got to carry over to the next screen.

 

I seem to remember it was a Time Travel game, since each screen was from different times in history but I can't remember if that is part of the name of it.

No idea, but do anyone know about this game?

It was a vertical scrolling action game where you played as this greek soldier (I think). If you were killed, you went to hell, and had to traverse a section down there to make it back to the land of the living before you continued your journey. I think it's from the early or mid-nineties, before I got smart enough to check the name of the games I liked.

If anyone has not tried the arcade version of this game it is excellent! Once you rescue a character you can add them to your roster of guys, then try and conquer the screen or just get them across the finish line by dodging stuff.
