Selling a PS3?

Postby JustLikeHeaven1 » December 18th, 2006, 8:39 pm

Hey my buddy just found a PS3 at Walmart and he asked me if he should sell it on ebay.  Do you guys think he can still get $1000+ for the 60gb system packaged with Resistance and an extra controller? If he can get $1100-$1200 he is gonna sell it...if not he is gonna keep it.  What do you guys think he should do?  Are they still selling for alot of money on ebay or no?

Thanks in advance.

There are lots of PS3s going unsold on ebay right now. Just keep it and play it.

People now know its not worth it. They didn't want to give up on Sony and who blames them, the PS1 was brilliant and the PS2 was voted the strongest console again this year by Electric Playground. But the facts are in and for now its not worth buying a PS3.

I hardly think many will agree with you there Andrew. The people willing to spend crazy amounts for one have already done it, that's why the price has been decreasing toward the MSRP.

I guess anybody can say "it's not worth it" but my guess is that those nutjobs who spent thousands could easily afford it. The PS3 is an incredible machine, on par with or greater then the 360. Now, before I get the "it's not better then the 360" replies keep in mind that I love the 360! I am just stating this from the technical aspect of things. I've played a buddies of mine PS3 extensively (Resistance mostly) and I really enjoy it. Anyway, I think most people are at the "wait till it comes to stores" stage. I have also seen plenty of Wii's going unsold at reasonable prices. I am going to pick one up but it's going to be a while. I refuse to pay inflated prices for anything!

Quote: "The PS3..is on a par with 360....from THE TECHNICAL ASPECT..."

I have not played either system, but I warn all to be wary of "TECH SPECS".... from a TECHNICAL ASPECT the Atari 5200 was better than Colecovision (more colors, sound output, more memory)
yet 9 out of 10 gamers prefered CV! Cv GAMES simply were (on the average) BETTER. Also, even if you consider the Jaguar to be only a "16 bit" machine (vs. 64 bit) it would be ON A PAR with Genesis and SUPER NES!!!! Ok, raise your hands, how many would rather have a Jaguar and complete library than a system with complete library of the SNES or GENESIS!!!???

BEWARE THE TECH SPEC MONSTER!

They're talking system power, not the quality of games programmed for them.

Also I don't think you'll find that many that preferred the Colecovision more than the 5200, they seemed pretty equal back in the day.

Being a comp sci the PS3 might LOOK better on paper but the system architecture they went with means that real world performance is not what you might think.

Well thanks for the replies...the two of us did some research and if he sold it on ebay he would probably make between $200-$400 depending on how the bidding goes.  He is afraid that he will only make $200 and he has just decided to keep the PS3...which works out well for me because now I can use my buddy's PS3 to decide if I want to take the plunge sooner rather than later...
