Forgive me for this odd topic, there's 2 feet of snow outside. Anyway, what are your favorite snow levels? I'd have to say the first snow level in Mario 64 (with the penguins), but the Mario 3 snow world, Sonic 3 snow level, and Gex 3 snow/Christmas level are all in the running. Count the Christmas Nights demo as a level if you want. Plenty of platformers have snow levels, so there's a lot to choose from. Pick your favorite and post it here.

Mario 64's for sure.

The opening stage of Castlevania: Dawn of Sorrow is slightly snowy, so I vote for that too.

That is pretty sweet, and I completely forgot to mention the ice temple in Ocarina of Time, which sucked, and the ice temple in Twilight Princess , which kicked ass. Although, to be fair the temple in Ocarina wasn't an actual temple, while the temple in Twilight Princess was full length.

Actually I usually hate snow worlds, as well as water worlds.  I think it has been way overdone.  It's like the programmers saying, "Ok, now try the game with poor controls and see how you do!"

I generaly don't like "ice" levels where you slip and slide like crazy, but the Princesses' floating ability made it tolerable in Super Mario Bros. 2 (or SMB advance 1)....I loved the ice scenery and whales on that level!

But how about a whole game devoted to an ice/snow theme? I am among the few who LOVE Ice Climber (NES, GBA) .... that's the good. The TERRIBLE was an awful arcade coin-op called FREEZE , an incredibly simple climbing game circa 1982, you moved a slow space guy through ice caverns full of bats and slugs that froze you on contact. If you got a spaceship part and escaped you got to do it all over again! Whee!

I remember the first DRIVING game with snow, too, Activisions ENDURO....oh and don't forget FROSTBITE!

Pretty much any game with the Hoth snow battle scene from the Empire Strikes Back.  Anyone remember the SNES version?  What an awesome experience to wrap up the AT-ATs and take 'em down for the first time ever.  Star Wars Battlefront extended it but the SNES version for me was the most memorable with Rogue Leader II coming in a close second.

The second level in Strider. I especially dig the part where you're scurrying down a mountain with gorgeous snow scenery in the background.

There are a few snow levels that came to mind after reading these posts...

The first was the Snow Fields in Contra (NES).  Its funny because the snow doesn't make the level different at all.  Yet this was the first level that came to my mind.

The Ice Palace in The Legend of Zelda: A link to the Past is one of my favorite ice levels to play through.  Its pretty hard, but its not so difficult that you want to rip your hair out.

There is that secret lab/facility in Resident Evil Code Veronica that stands out to me.  It was one of the creepier parts of that game.

I agree with Alienblue about how cool the SMB 2 ice levels look.  The whales were a nice touch.

My final snow level actually comes from a racing game...does anybody remember the tracks on the Snow Planet in Rock n Roll Racing (SNES)?  For some reason I really dug those courses.
