I am currently writing this post on my wii, if you have one, you can now download the web browser and news channel. The news channel gives you one, two, and five day forecasts for any major city in the world. When you start the channel, you are asked where you live and about ten major cities appear for you to choose from. Then, it is ready with the forecast. Then Web Browser is downloaded by going to the shop channel and going under Wii Ware and internet browser. For now, it's free to download until June, I believe. Then, I've read it costs 500 Wii points.[$5] The control is not too bad, the web pages are more stretched out and the font is harder to see, but the do offer you a list of words that are similar to what you have typed [like texting on a cellphone].

Hello from my Wii as well!

Actually, it's the Forecast Channel you are describing here, not the News Channel, which doesn't go live until January, 2007.

I'm gonna wait on Nintendo's ethernet adapter before I get online. I can't get anything wireless to work on my computer, and I don't feel like calling over a tech guy to come look at it. There's an ethernet adapter selling on the internet that works with Wii, but I figure if something didn't work with that I'd have a better chance working it out with Nintendo's tech support than with some other company's. Besides, it's only a month. Unless Nintendo is lieing my Wii should be online in mid January, by which point it sounds like I'll be able to get Weather, News, and an internet browser.

In other news, Super Mario Bros., Toejam and Earl, Street Fighter 2, Super Castlevania 4 (sweet), and R-Type are going to be downloadable on Christmas in North America. There are now 3 Virtual Console games that I have to have once I get internet working (Castlevania 4, Bonk's Adventure and Gunstar Heroes), and several more that I am interested in, mainly Military Madness (the start of Advance Wars).

One other thing. Has anyone tried playing with photos on the Wii? It is pretty fun. Doodling is pretty limited, but you can cut parts of the picture and past them in other spots, as well as draw using colors from the picture. You can also make pictures black and white (there are a couple of other options on changing colors as well), and make puzzles out of the pictures. If you have a digital camera go take some cool pictures then pop the SD card into the Wii. It's a fun way to pass some time.

Can you hook a keyboard up to the Wii? This is not an intended dig I honestly don't know. I didn't think you could but I wanted to ask. Thanks.

I am sure you could, but as of yet, I know of no such attachment.

My brother has a keyboard with a USB attachment, so yes you could technically hook a keyboard to the Wii. I'll try it later, but somehow I doubt it will actually do anything. Nintendo needs to get off of their asses and send an update that will let us hook portable hard drives and other things into the USB slot. Right now it seems like its only use is a USB ethernet adapter that will come out in the future. So why didn't they just give us an ethernet port?

Hopefully, at some point I can hook up my hard drive, because I have thousands of songs on it and it would be pretty sweet if I could listen to them on the Wii. Plus, portable hard drives are so incredibly cheap. You could pay $80 for 60 blocks of memory.

The USB port is more flexible for the future.  It's only been released for a month   In time that USB port could take on other functions, but an ethernet-only port?  Not so flexible...

Does it look any good on a non high def console?  I've used the Dreamcast and WebTV internet before and it just looks awful on a standard def TV.

I wouldn't really rather have an ethernet port, just expressing a little frustration that I'm not online yet. I have a lot of hope for the USB port; some pretty sweet things could come from it.

Did I miss something, how are people typing from their Wii? Is there  a touch pad that you use on screen? I wouldn't count on Nintendo doing all that much as far as upgrades go. They shipped the thing w/o a real hard drive (to save money I guess) and I believe that is how they intend to support the Wii.
