Before there was fake news, the VGC had fake reviews (in honor of April Fools Day).
I was just reading a few of them and laughing out loud! I wrote this stuff? Hilarious!

Also amusing is how many people have posted their own grades despite having never played these imaginary games.
Good times! Which is your favorite? I have to go with Strip Poker 2 for the Virtual Boy.

The Distracted Driver review is the funniest to me by far, but I love how well The Hobbit's review captures the experience of trying to figure out a cryptic, primitive old game without the instructions.

Re: Favorite Fake Review?
I've read all of those reviews in the past and I only knew one of them was fake, Distracted Driver, because I was interested in it. I honestly thought you were just buying obscure homebrews at game conventions and reviewing them. Maybe they just weren't unbelievable enough considering what I have seen attempted on the home brew circuit...

Definitely Strip Poker II. The other ones were good too, but that one really raised the bar. There's at least 3 or 4 lines in there that are laugh-out-loud funny. The best line, "My Virtual Boy is finally a Virtual Man", is my favorite line of all the reviews on the site.

Distracted Driver was pretty brilliant and I loved the line “take one for the team”.

Yeah the Distracted Driver might have turned out a little better if I didn't wait until the last minute to get started on it.
Still, it was timely! People can definitely relate to that one.

Thing is, I think this game could have potential, in an enviro bear 2000 sort of way.

I was going to say Halo for the 2600, but recently I discovered it was a real game (I saw it at a game convention). The beginning lines of the review make it sound like a fake review: "ingeniously translates the classic Xbox first-person shooter into a riveting 2D experience." I can't believe it actually exists!

That could be a new icon: "game you thought had to be fake but turned out to be real"
