We can all agree the 360 Sonic is awful, but what about the PSP game Sonic Rivals?
At first I thought this one had potential. It nicely mixes 2D gameplay with 3D graphics - an approach I've been advocating for some time. But sadly, every stage is a race against another character, and this is a major flaw. For one thing, there's no time to stop and explore the surroundings, which look pretty nice. Also, there's an emphasis on the "super-speed" sections where you just hold the directional pad right while Sonic goes crazy through loops and corkscrews totally out of your control.
I'm still reviewing this, but it's mediocre at best. We're talking "D" material here.
Perhaps a 3D Sonic game with the "classic" 2D gameplay would be a good option. Right now the people at Sega seem utterly clueless. Why they don't hire me on as a consultant I have no idea. Don't you think the VGC could turn than company around?

Just let him die, Sonic's just following the normal trend of video games:
The newer the game is, the worse it is.

Sonic Rush was ok though. It wasn't genius, but it was interesting.

I agree.
I think the series should have went:
Sonic 1, Sonic 2, Sonic Chaos, Sonic 3 & Knuckles, Sonic Adventure (Dreamcast), Sonic Advance, and Sonic Rush. Everything else with the Sonic name and every other spin-off is just weight dragging the series down. Sonic Rush certainly deserves to be considered part of the real Sonic legacy.

The thing about Sonic Rush is that it combined the 2D and 3D elements of past Sonic games; the overly dramatic loops, grinding, the trick system, and the homing attack are intertwined with classic 2D Sonic speed and character. I think that's why it appeals to such a large audience, because it welcomes newcomers to the series as well as veterans.

Maybe he threw a fit for good reasons. "Sonic the Hedgehog" for the 360 looked hot, after all. "Sonic Rivals" for the PSP looked hot, too. Neither one was all that hot in the end. Maybe Yuki thought it looked hot too, but ultimately knew it wasn't.

Maybe someone should break into the house of the guy who had the Sonic Xtreme beta CDR, hold him up, steal the CD, and distribute it over a bittorrent....

Sonic Games are going downhill. They are not sticking on what made the original fun. Like the Mario Party Games. They seem to get worser every time.

What? He through a fit because he was pissed they were using HIS graphics engine because HE has an ego so big it hardly fits in his skull. That's the sad truth he was so petty over a graphics engine he ruined what could have been a great game. And really it looked to have way more going for it than rivals of the new 360 one did. Promising game play interesting concepts. Sadly it was not to be.
