[Alienblue]

I find it amazing how people argue about movies to the same fervor as politics. They're just pretend, guys! Just STORIES! I doubt I'd want to see BB:mountain, but only because I'm not into dramas. I don't care weather anyone goes straigt or turns right!
(I got that from an old, old girlfreind who was Bi, by the by...)

I don't watch very many movies, I prefer books. Not just serious books (though I like science too), I love manga and cartoon strip collections (GET FUZZY is finally getting better, MUTTS is one of the best!). I don't take movies seriosly and can suspend disbelief more I guess-I didn't care that THE THING looked more plastic than rock, or asked how lois lanes kid got to be like 8-9 years old in "two years" .... (could be those super genes), if a movie is ETERTAINING that's it for me! Also, I HATE dark movies, scary or horror..maybe why I did not like Batman:R.

I wouldn't say this movie is praising it's main character.  At least no more than Taxi Driver is supposed to praise Robert Deniro's character.  This was supposed to be an accurate movie about flawed human beings.  They don't make the main guy a hero.  He is an abuser, selfish, and doesn't seem to care too much about his kids.  I feel this movie accurately portrayed the issue at hand, homosexuality in intolerant places, while keeping the family problems it brings in perspective.

Yeah I think your analysis is much better than mine.  I still think the guy was a villain for what he did, but the movie didn't really seem to be making commentary of any kind.  They tried to make it realistic enough to be subject to interpretation.  By doing so, they didn't hide any of the flaws of the characters involved, ESPECIALLY Ennis, who is downright unlikeable at times.

 

In fact, I think at least a few gay people I know feel the movie wasn't judgemental enough.  They went to the film looking for a "nod", and came out upset that the movie makers chose not to take sides more explicitly.

I thought that might be it. I can understand that. It was a bit darker than the first one, and much darker than the third. As long as we're in agreement that Batman and Robin sucked I'll leave it be.

PSP:

* Unlock all hidden characters, items and weapons on Metal Gear Solid: Portable Ops and beat it on "extreme"

* Beat all of the games in Gradius Collection (...if possible!)

* Beat Phantasy Star 2, 3, and 4 in Sega Genesis Collection  (...if possible!  I did get through 1, however)

* pick up Syphon Filter, Gun, and some others when the prices drop

DS:

* Finish Mario & Luigi: Partners in Time

* Castlevania DS.

PC:

* After Half Life 2: Episode Three comes out (supposedly, the end of the series), have a multi-day camp out in front of my laptop and play through every game in the series from beginning to end.

 

other resolutions:

 

* ace the math-GRE (test you need to do for PhD programs in math)

* get good grades

* do well on my masters thesis

* get into a good PhD program!

I wouldn't recommend Batman Begins or the sequals then, they are very dark.
