Look what I bought tonight...

My first Playstation--a PS3. I bought the 60GB version at Best Buy, although I would have purchased the 30GB if it was in stock. The main difference is wireless connectivity and a larger HD. One guy told me he thought PS2 games would only work on the 60GB version, but I think he's wrong.

I still find it incredibly insulting that it comes with A/V cables. No component or HDMI.

Enjoy! Give us a full report when you have time. What games did you get?

Typical advice from a Best Buy employee.  People think they are knowledgeable for some reason.

Believe it or not, I didn't buy any games. The only game I want is Resistance, and they were out. I had to meet some relatives for dinner, so I just headed out. Regardless, I won't play until I have the HDMI cables (another $50). What a ripoff. But, I knew it going in, so I can't complain I guess.

Yes, the Best Buy employee said that about backwards compatibility. I just thought to myself, "that makes absolutely no sense." But he was really nice, so I didn't question him or give him a hard time.

When I walked in, I was just looking to blow a few gift cards I had. When I went to check for a Wii, I saw four PS3 boxes--which amazed me. When I commented about being surprised they had PS3s in stock, he said that it usually takes all day to sell out of Wiis when they get them too, which also surprised me. Anyway, I had $260 in misc gift cards, so I thought "what the heck."

I think right now people just don't have the extra cash to buy a Wii or a PS3 b/c the holidays just wrapped up. I saw a PS3 in a Gamestop a few days ago and passed b/c I just spent a boat load on the holidays.

That's Sony for ya... one thing they're famous for is nickel and diming their fans at every possible point.  My experiences with the PS and PS2:
Want to play with more than 2 players?  We'll sell you a multitap for extra.  Want to save more than 3 save-game files on a memory card?  Buy another (whimpy 8MB) memory card for $30.  Networking?  Buy our add-on.  Output beyond RCA jacks?  Ohhh, that'll cost ya!
Now I may be off base but I believe *most* of the above issues have been addressed with the PS3 - networkable out of the box, 4 controller ports, and a HD.  Then again, they doubled their price so I guess you're paying either way.  Nope, don't see me buying another Sony console anytime soon.

ive yet to see a wii on any store shelf. PS3s can be found pretty much anywhere, the high price points are keeping average and casual gamers away

C'mon, of course if you keep deleting games you're never gonna run out of room!  Give me a break.
