My All Time Top 50

Postby feilong801 » January 3rd, 2007, 8:02 pm

I give you tremendous credit for putting Smash TV as your #1. Is it purely sentimental, or do you really think it is the best game of all time?

It's OK if it is sentimental, after all, I personally love the movie Demolition Man but it isn't going to be lauded by most people.

In any event, It did make me have a hearty laugh. Great comedy (I mean that in a positive way).

[QUOTE=Edward M]

I have never seen a top games of all time list that I have disagreed with more.  No way is pokemon one of the top 10, it's an extremely overrated substandard JRPG.   Chrono Trigger or Final Fantasy Tactics are far better.  Smash TV is definately awesome, but not even close to the greatest game of all time.  It doesn't even have any real level design.   I look at this list and I only notice a handful of games that would be on my list.   Castlevania: Symphony of the Night,  Super Mario 64, Smash TV (But not number 1), Super Mario Bros 3, Viewtiful Joe.  I notice a lot of pre NES  arcade style games on the list, and I'm really not a big fan of them.  Maybe because I'm young, but I just don't feel they have aged well.   Games like Galaga and Pac Man get boring to me very quick.

I don't think this is a list of the greatest games of all-time.  I think Koopa listed his top 50 favorite games of all-time.  There's a difference.  For example, Demon Attack for the 2600 is a favorite of mine because I loved it so much as a kid, but I realize that it isn't one of the greatest games ever.

I usually find top game lists boring, I mean EVERYONE has their own favorites, but koopa being koopa I had to add some underdogs from the 80's:

LADYBUG: Possibly the best maze game ever.

AMIDAR/PEPPER 2: Two similiar"surround the box" games, great!

MR.DO!: Despite Dig Dug, THIS is the best digger ever!

I'd also add Thunderforce 3, Darius G, Raiden Project, New
Super Mario and Super Pincess Peach!

What the heck is carn-evil? CARNIVAL was an ok side shooter.

It's not the craptastic shooter I was thinking it was.  This actually looks pretty good.  For some reason I was thinking this was one of those mid to late 80s games with really bad sprites where you stuff out in a horror like setting.  The screenshots look good.

While they are indeed awesome, they're very different games.

While there are good games on the list that should be there, the list is quite poor.

Halo 2, never. And Destroy all Humans? I can even  imagine why it got mention. Finally Megamania is fun but its not top anything.

Here are some real titles that should be there:

Super mario bros (nes)
Contra (arcade or nes)
Goldeneye(n64)
nhl 94(genesis)
Ocarina of Time (n64)
B-17 bomber(intellivision)
Baseball Stars (nes)

The game is actually one of the worst light gun games in recent memory, this coming from the guy who completed monster hunter 2 (or whatever that awful game was called).   Everything takes way to many bullets to put them down and the boss fights are cheap hit city.  Plus it's really, really ugly the backrounds are all pre-rendered and don't look the least bit convinving.

Megamania/Plaque Attack

Quote
"While they are indeed Awesome they are very different games..."

Wrong! Beep! The guy that programmed Megamania admitted that he used that games engine (and it was obvious before he said so) to make the sub-par Plaque attack. I love Megamania, but PA sucks big time. The food items look more real and colorful, but having to shoot both up AND down while trying to save the badly spaced teeth is frustrating. Unlike Megamania were the colors, speed and patterns change after the Dice wave, the waves here just repeat over and over at a faster pace, and it gets way too difficult too quickly. Bad use of the MM code!
