This article makes me feel like I should 1) re-review the original Genesis version with a friend, and 2) buy the new one!

The Genesis-style controller looks interesting too....

Thoughts?

To me the original Toejam & Earl is an example of one of the best parts of classic video gaming, bringing back those nostalgic moments from when we were younger. I remember the first time I played this game when my Mom rented it for me and a friend for a sleepover. We didn't beat it, but the game won me over with it's quirkiness and originality. It really wasn't like anything else I had ever played up to that point. I enjoyed the game so much that it was the first game that I decided to buy myself. It took about a month and a half of paper route money (it was a small paper route), but I finally got to bike up to our local Fisher's Big Wheel (actually the only one I was aware of in NE Ohio) and purchase it from out of the glass case where all things video game related were kept. I still have that copy of the game, but I do greatly regret losing the awesome instructions for the game which included funny fake latin names and descriptions for all of the Earthlings you'd run across. Will everybody enjoy this game as much as myself? Probably not. My wife actually prefers the more standard platforming of Toejam & Earl 2. I would highly recommend that everybody try to play the original Toejam & Earl at least once though.

Gave it a go the other day. Finished building the ship for one go. And I'll be doing it again, single player, and multiplayer. This game really takes everything great about the original TJ&E and expands upon that. The art style isn't as bad as I thought it was going to be, and the controls are actually really good for a game with an isometric view. And the music is fantastic. No surprise there, as it IS Toejam and Earl. If you liked the original, you'll love this one.

Yeah, it's digital release is already out. Though, I do plan to get the Switch or perhaps PS4 version when those are available. This game, 8 days after release, is already in my top 10 favorite games of all time.

Taking more time to play, and this is proving a worthwhile reboot. I can't believe how damn good this game is! Great way to kill an hour or two.
