So, what gets a thread locked?

Postby voor » January 5th, 2007, 6:35 am

Personally, a lot of times this forum seems like a bunch of know-it-alls trying to one-up each other.

But, most forums are, so I guess its the nature of the beast.  Plus, often video gamers (like musicians, sports fans, etc.) can be some of the most arrogant people you can ever meet.

Looks like I'd better lock up this thread.....

I've never done it, and I think it would only ever happen if the thread got out of control without my having a chance to catch it in time.  Otherwise, it can be avoided with more of a micro-managing approach - deleting or editing individual posts.

Quote" ..videogame players are some of the most arrogant people I've ever met."

That's completely untrue!

Hey, you want a piece of this? Step outside you @#$%!

Seriously, the people I've met on VGC are the nicest I've met anywhere online. They have been concearned, thoughtful and considerate. I won't name names, but you I could point out individuals on here you could NEVER call arrogant or inconsiderate, while others, yeah, they tend to blow up sometimes. That's called individuality. But that's what makes a forum interesting. It would be boring if everyone were sweet and perfect and wonderful.... again, I could name names...

Whoa AB, you seriously misquoted me.  I'm not disputing you, just you need to work on your quote skills.

Well, it isn't really that gamers are so arrogant, its more of an internet message board thing. Trust me, its worse on almost every other board I've seen, we are quite moderate here, even when things get a bit out of hand. It's because there is such a rapid yet smallish following here that we sort of know each other's personalities in a way that other message boards can't compete with.

Voor, I don't think I SERIOUSLY misquoted you. You said in your post that "..videogame players can (like sports players, musicians, etc..) quite often BE THE MOST ARROGANT PEOPLE YOU CAN EVER MEET." (Emphasis mine) - I just left out the sports players and musicians part, really.

I just said that by and large that hasn't been my experience. Vgers have treated me quite nice. Of course, as I said, I am aware that there are a few gamers that seem to like to argue and call each other "fanboy", but that is the exception to the rule. As the above said, it is FAR worse on other sites. I don't think you can compare the average hard working VG'er to snooty celebrities, either. I mean, I AM PERFECT! HRMPH!
