Angry Video Game Nerd Media?

Postby VideoGameCritic » April 21st, 2019, 10:30 pm

I've always been a fan of the Angry Video Game Nerd, collecting each of his new DVDs and Blu Rays as they are released. But it's been two years since he released a new Blu Ray, and apparently his discs are no longer for sale on Amazon. What gives?

Then it occurred to me that maybe he make an exclusive deal with YouTube? If so, I think that's a little sad. I've enjoyed those old episodes over and over and the idea that his new stuff will only be available online kind of stinks.

Thoughts?

You can always aim a camera at the TV screen. If it worked in the 50's, it'll work today!

A bit more seriously...I think RealPlayer can download YouTube Videos. A few other services may too. This may violate YouTube's Terms of Service tho.

I haven't heard anything about newer episodes being released on dvd, and the cinemassacre links got to amazon, which seems to not have any in stock. I even looked on rooster teeth, which used to sell them, but they no longer have them either.

However, Screenwave Media has them. The most recent bluray they have is the Ready 4 Revenge, which features episodes up to Sonic 06 and Game Boy Accessories. The older, regular DVD's have also been reissued with new artwork.

Those links point right to Amazon and say "currently unavailable".

So either he's preparing for a big reissue, or putting all his eggs in the streaming basket.

I'm pretty sure the AVGN doesn't have an exclusive deal with YouTube. He has been doing more sponsorships lately which I'm sure is helping cover some of his costs.

I'm pretty sure that it is more likely that it costs money to distribute his media on physical discs and either A.) not as many people bought his copies as he was hoping to turn a profit or B.) He doesn't feel there is enough content to cover another release yet.

Judging from his other videos on his channel, he seems like a big fan of physical media so I'm sure he'll try and release physical discs if possible.

Tweet James Rolfe and ask what's going on.
