My impressions of Resistance: FoM so far...

Alright, time to do what I do from time to time after re-reading a thread and apologize.  Sorry Shawn.  My first post to you was more sarcastic than necessary, then you called me dumb, and then I retaliated with something worse again.  Name calling doesn't solve any arguements, so for my part I'm sorry. 

Regarding the 360 core vs. PS3 thing, I will admit hat comparing the cheap 360 to the premium PS3 is wrong, however, I still feel it is fair to compare the core 360 to the core PS3.  There are so many ways to get a deal on a 360 right now, or to get a used memory card, that I think putting the core at $340 is an over estimate for the type of people trying to be frugal enough to buy the core in the first place. I lso cannot think of the core as not next gen., because, like I said, playing next gen. games is next gen.

@Wur: They'll stop being the New Democratic Party as soon as the Liberals are actually Liberal, and when the Conservative party changes it's name to the Alliance/Reform party, as honestly, that's what they are. I think the New Democratic Party is a funny name.  It's like they're saying "yeah, we're socialist, but remember we like democracy.  They clearly were trying to avoid being called communists.

Knock it off with tacking on-line costs to the 360 pricetag.  Nobody needs that crap to enjoy that system.  I love playing the system the way it is and have no desire to go on-line.

Critic, you are out of your mind and your reviews are in danger of becoming incomplete (many are already) if you think going "online" isn't important. Say what you will but I think Gears has already hosted millions of games "online". Does that mean nothing to you?

 

The only reason I "tacked" on the costs was to make the comparison somewhat equal between the 360 and PS3. Of course you enjoy the 360 w/o the online service, but I think it is a huge plus and you are sadly mistaken if you think otherwise.

 

Keep in mind that I love the 360 and play mostly "offline" but I love downloading demos, watching videos, xbox live arcade, etc, etc. It was huge selling point for me and I am glad I picked one up. I am also psyched that I can download FREE content for GOW...guess you will be missing out.

I think on-line is terrific for most people but I don't have the time or desire to partake in it.  I work 40+ hours per week and have a lot of family commitments.  I have friends over on a regular basis for multi-player action.  It's time-consuming to maintain the site, and I literally have piles of games to review (many sent in the mail).  When I have some play time to myself, I like to relax and be in my own little world.  Don't please don't preach to me about how I need to make time in my life for on-line gaming.  I'm sorry if my reviews are "incomplete" but it's the best I can do.

Critic, don't get me wrong. I love your site. I don't agree with you all the time but I honestly think you do a hell of a job. I appreciate your experience with and your passion for this hobby. I wasn't suggesting that you "need" to do anything. All I was saying was that in order to compare the 360 and the PS3 you have to add in the wireless connectivity in order to compare the two. I apologize if I offended you, it wasn't my intentions.

Shawn my minimum week is 40 hours.  That is the least number of hours I have worked in my whole life and I am loving it.  For the past 11 years I worked nearly every evening and day.  When I was at uni I never had a day off work apart from two over xmas and one on my birthday from october through to june.  This year I spent a month where I worked 91 hour weeks for 5 weeks straight and that doesn't include travelling or anything where I revised in my head.  While at uni I barely ever had more than 2 hours freetime a day.  But feel free to steroetype a whole continent.
