Sony's system problems

Postby Sudz1 » January 13th, 2007, 12:36 pm

I have a Playstation, Playstation 2, Xbox, and Dreamcast (of the 'modern' systems that is - I have plenty other older systems but I don't think they're relevant to this thread) and although my favorite system of the 4 is probably the Dreamcast, I have to admit that THAT console has always seemed the flimsiest.  I've got two of them just because of reliability issues, and I know the VGC has experienced plenty of problems with his own.  Don't know what the issue is but from time to time they simply don't want to read disks.  I've never had any problems with any of the other 3 above mentioned systems, with the exception of a blown ethernet port on the Xbox following a lightning strike next to my house (not the console's fault).

Sony's system problems

The PS1 had far fewer problems than the PS2, understandably so however due to the more complex technology.

You have no idea how many defective 360's we get at my small Futureshop a week.

My family got a Playstation 1 for Christmas 1997. We were psyched about that system. I was still playing the Genesis and got probably my last games of that. I had for the PS1 Nascar 98, NFL GameDay, Crash Bandicoot, etc... We had it for a couple years then had to get a brand new PS1 of the same model and worked well. In 2003, my family got a PS2. It was better. We had ATV, Grand Theft Auto, Madden games, Medal of Honor, Crash. For the couple of years, the PS2 had plenty of dust in the system. Some games would fail to respond. It broke and then got the slim version and it broke ( no dust) and then got another slim one. Problems with dust started with the NES. I had one in the 1990s. My parents sold it or something but I still have 7 cartridges. The Playstation is the thing that dont have good hardware. The DVD thing was fine on the bulky PS2 but on the slim one, some films failed to come on like Napoleon Dynamite, Happy Gilmore. Some were in scenes and failed. The games work fine though but not some PS1 games. Some managed to work where it did not in the original PS2. I say Sony needs to make a test on it for several months to see if it works or fails

Sony's system problems

The original NES had issues, but it didn't seem it affect its popularity (of course, it was way better than anything else except the Commodore, so that helped).

I got some friends named Psycho Fox, Zillion, Shinobi, Alex Kidd, Sonic, and Phantasy Star who would disagree with your diagnosis.

Sure, the Gennie might have dominated the NES back in the day, but you can't possibly mean the old master system, do you? That system was fairly mediocre.

I have had my dreamcast since launch day 1999 and I have yet to have an issue with it. Same is to be said for my sega cd which I have had since 93, and my saturn since 96. All still in perfect working order. But in the age of assembly lines, nothing can be perfect.

Well, the NES was sort of a system problem. I mean it was a flaw. Nintendo was popular in 1985. But the system later on would cause problems. Not only was that system a troubled thing, but some companies began to sue Nintendo for thier rules. The PS2 might still be made today but there might be some more titles. The original version is sort of like the NES model but it was a CD system but plenty of dust came into the PS2. In 1993, the NES 2 came and it was top loading like the Super NES It would be a thing for people who had a broken NES 1. It would continue until 1995 when the NES ended. The slim PS2 looks like a slim model of the Sega CD 2 but the CD one was an add-on. There are plenty of system changes for the NES, SNES, Genesis, Master System, CD, PS1 and PS2. The Genesis, Master System, and SNES had systems that did not break but the CD 2 was worse than CD 1. The NES, PS1, and PS2 were a thing for the people who had broken systems.

Lucky for you.  But overall it is a very unreliable console as the problems were being reported all the time on the boards, far more than any other console I have seen.  Everyone I know who owns one has had problems.
My PS2 was thrown about 30 feet from my deck- which is a good 6 feet off the ground. Despite some stuttering when booting it up (and only then) it works absolutely perfectly.

Honestly, the whole "sony makes crap products" thing seems like it happens to a few people who decide to blow it out of proportion.
I've bought three so far.

It had Phantasy Star, though, which is easily one of the 10 best games of it's generation. Just too bad it didn't really have anything else, save some half-decent Sonic games that were also available on the Game Gear anyway.

Yeah, well I own a Genesis, SNES, Playstation 1 and 2 but I have played but never owned a Sega Saturn, CD, and Nintendo 64. I did have an NES but it is gone. I have games like Sonic, Mario, Madden, Grand Theft Auto, Medal of Honor. Sometime this month or last days of December, I cleaned my cartridges and some have managed to work without being blowed. The original NES is a flaw. Basically you put carts in like a VCR and that is the only system to do that and thank goodness cause it could have been more bad on other systems. Sony weakness is it's durability. I mean, yeah the games are great but the systems do not work well. The PS1 game system don't work well after a couple of years. Maybe it is the discs. The PS2 is sort of like an NES system but I do not understand how the PS2 gets dust and grime. Is Sony liable for their systems?
