Thoughts of the Wii after a month

[QUOTE=Paul Campbell]

I've always been the same way about Rampage, even when it first was in the arcades.  I thought it was cool for about 10 minutes before the bored truck hit me.  I doubt I'll ever buy that one.

I havn't played it yet, but from what I've read, Elebits sounds like an interesting little single or multi player game.  For some reason I thought it was gonna be sort of a clone of Pikmin, which I liked but burned out on REALLY quickly.  It looks like a cool one and I might pick it up next.

Paul, I have always felt the same way that you did about Rampage.  Personally I always found it to be a greate concept that was shallow as all hell.  I tried the N64 game back in the day, but it was also pretty boring.

This new Rampage keeps the orignal concept while adding more depth.  There are over 30 monsters to unlock.  Plus you have to unlock abilities for the monsters, by completing objectives. I find smashing buildings with the Wii mote a simple pleasure that I don't get sick of.  Plus the game really shines in multiplayer.  It gets pretty cutthroat when you are all trying to destroy stuff for points...a common tactic is to kill your oppenent and then eat them.  As a single player game its slightly below average, but as a multiplayer game I would put it in the C+/B- range.  If you can find it for $20 or less, its well worth the money.  I have been pleasantly pleased with it.

Elebits looks like a quirky little game that I will probably get once it hits the bargain bin.

As for SD cards, Best Buy is a good place to look. Mine was a 2GB for $30, but if you check the Sunday flyers sometimes you can find them for cheaper than that. Heck, the day after Thanksgiving 2GB SD cards (San Disk brand) were $2.00 with a rebate at Circuit City. You won't find a price that good until next November, but you could probably find one for $20.00 or so if you look around.

I was snooping around the internet and I stumbled upon a 2GB SD card for $20.  I will be picking it up shortly.  I found it at newegg.com.

Hey "a", how does saving game files to the SD card work...is there an in game option to save to the card or do you have to transfer it from the Wii internal memory?

After I get the SD card I will be buying Excite Truck.  I found it online for $40 and thats good enough for me.

Not "a", but I can answer.  You have to transfer it from the internal memory, and back to it when you want to go back to a previous memory.  It's the same with the Wii channels.  If you download games, you can transfer them to the memory card, but in order for them to appear and be playable, they have to be in the Wii internal memory.

So think of the card as a way of backing things up.

Thanks for the info Mozart.  Thats kind of how I figured it would work, and I can't imagine ever filling up the 2 GB with saves and downloaded content.  For $20 it will be the best "memory card" I've ever purchased.

Shawn I have 5 games for my Wii, and I have yet to find another controller. I'm having plenty of fun playing on my own. Even Rayman is fun to just play in the same room as another person, and Excite Truck has plenty of replay value as a 1 player game.

Hey Thanks for the info. I am really going to wait but it doesn't matter anyway, they aren't available. I am sure that will change by March. One thing is for sure; like it or not, Nintendo has a hit on their hands. I hope thor their sake and the N faithful that they can capitalize on their momentum. Not to be a jerk but the 2007 doesn't look that impressive (that is just my opinion, not knocking Nintendo) so hopefully there will be a few dark horses in their lineup.

Well, I'm expecting at least a few "Phoenix Wright" type under the radar sleeper hits as well, since the system is relatively cheap to dev for. I'd be surprised if the only thing worth playing are just the highly touted titles on everyone's list.

Well, I haven't seen strong third-party companies comfirming games yet, but I have a feeling that will change since the Wii is doing so well (I know it's early but no one can deny the fact that the hype is still there). As for first party games though, there are at least 6 very promising games coming from Nintendo, including Smash Bros. and Mario Galaxies.

You are probably right, although I have a hard time believing they will be able to launch Smash Bros, Metroid and a Mario game all in the same year. But who knows...

You have to admit though, with a Zelda out already, and a new Smash Bros., a new Mario, and a new Metroid all in the first year, they'd be going very strong.
Now, of those, I already have Twilight Princess on the Cube, I don't like 3D Metroid games at all, and I prefer my Mario in 2D as well, so I'm not that excited about 3 of those games.  Now, if I can get a new Pikmin, a new Animal Crossing, and a new Yoshi Touch and Go/ Kirby:CC type game for the system, then I'll be real excited.
