Got to love the 360!

Postby BanjoPickles1 » January 12th, 2007, 4:06 pm

Really?! Oh god, I feel like the early to mid 90's was almost like a last grasp for great music in the mainstream(the best music of today is either on the fringe or underground). I mean, look at some of the bands from that era

Top Tier(to me):

REM

Nirvana(overrated, sure, but some of their music was undeniable)

The Pixies(technically late 80's but their influence carried over)

Pavement

Weezer

Pearl Jam

Smashing Pumpkins

Blur

Oasis(hey, Definite Maybe was BRILLIANT!)

Alice in Chains

...Those are just some of my favorites. Compare those bands I just mentioned to:

Hinder(????)

Three Days Grace

Stone Sour

Buck Cherry

And a million other faceless bands clogging the radio today.

I can name the singer, not to mention individual band members, from the bands of the early to mid 90's, because they had personality. The term "rock star" is such a farce nowadays. When you read headlines like "Kelly Clarkson: born-again rocker" and "Christina Aguilara records a rock song..." god, it makes me want to puke! I miss the days of Eddie Vedder climbing on a stack of amps, ready to jump into an overeager audience. The sight of Michael Stipe, dancing like a crazed gypsy. Also, I miss the feeling of turning on MTV and catching something good. Anyway, it's cool if ya don't like the early 90's...as you can tell, I do!;-)
Train of thought was my first DT album, but not even close to my favorite.  Man I would love if they cut up bits and pieces from change of seasons and put it on there, obviously putting the whole 23 minutes isn't going to happen.  Honestly scenes from a memory was always my favorite album of theirs, I played that thing to death.
My first was Scenes From A Memory, which a friend sent me. I recently bought an ACTUAL copy of it a few weeks ago, because I saw it for $15. Can't beat that.
And if you like DT you have to pick ups some pain of salvation if you haven't already.  The perfect element and entropy are their best.  Avoid "Be" unless you want a lot of "hi concept" prog rock.  And about the misfits some of their songs are just so perfect for this stuff, short and fast.  Mars attacks and holloween pls.
Thanks, I'll check them out!
Act, I'm sorry for criticizing a band of yours.:-( I liked a few of their songs but they never made an album that appealed to me. I like Ed Rowland's voice, though(I think that's his name).
My favorite CD from them was their second one titled creatively enough Collective Soul.

Second would have been Dosage (their 4th album).  It's got more of an edge to it and faster pace.

You can sample the tracks on amazon and see which one you prefer but all in all these are the two best CDs they put out.  Their last two albums weren't near as good IMHO.

Love the new title Shaq/BanjoPickles

Actually, I like modern rock even worse than early 90's! In fact, I should start another thread on this....
