I personally strongly prefer having GB and GBC separate, because their libraries are so distinct and represent different eras in gaming. Yes, there's some overlap with the grey cart games like Montezuma's Return that will run on the monochrome Game Boy, but generally the type of game you see on GBC is so substantially different that the distinction is well worth making.
I'm perennially frustrated by a website I use that lumps GB and GBC together -- it makes it annoyingly hard to find what I'm looking for, or to keep straight in my head which games were GBC-only.
BTW don't worry if the sections for those portables are sparsely populated. I, and maybe others too, view those sections as almost something of a bonus, since console gaming is the main focus of the site.
Personally, I love the inclusion of handhelds, as I've always been a handheld gamer first, console second ever since I got my first Game Boy with Tetris in the early 90s. I didn't own a console until almost '96-97, when I got my first SNES.

Also, there are still TONS of classic Game Boy and GBC games yet to be reviewed, and still a sizeable chunk of GBA to review (even if RPGs are passed.). I have always enjoyed the VGC's perspective on the handheld counterparts to the console versions, such as the reviews of The Lion King on the 16-bit systems and the GB and GG versions.

Oh, to be clear, I very much enjoy the VGC's portable reviews, and my post was in no way meant to discourage more! I've just always considered them as a pleasant surprise when they show up, if that makes sense.
But I'd love to see more Game Boy and Game Boy Color reviews, and would particularly love to see the complete Game.com and Lynx libraries get reviewed someday.

GB and GBC could go together, but they are really separate platforms.
GBA is definitely its own platform.

Everdrive GB and Everdrive GBA are the answer, especially since 90% of the carts on ebay are bootlegs.

Advance games will not play on the original or color Game Boys, so, again, they need to have their own category.
There are actually a few Color games you can play on an OG Game Boy. Pokemon Gold and Silver are notable examples, I know for a fact they can be played on the OG. Yellow as well. Crystal, on the other hand, can only be played on GBC or GBA.

Despite it being late in life for the Super Nintendo, some of these even got added Super Game Boy enhancements for Nintendo's adapter for the SNES. One such example is the special border in Link's Awakening DX that wasn't present in the original monochrome release in a gray cartridge.

There is one particularly odd example: Space Invaders. When playing the Game Boy cart on a Super Game Boy, the menu screen allows you to select “Super Game Boy” or “arcade,” with the arcade mode being a SNES-only version of the game. Though, in fairness, it’s just the existing SNES version of Space Invaders (minus the multiplayer option of the SNES cart), but it’s still a fun historical curio: a SNES game delivered by a Game Boy cart.

The black cartridge version though from Activision is a different game. No such fun in it, just a poorly modernized version of Space Invaders for the Game Boy and Game Boy Color.

It's the Nintendo published version five years earlier for just the Game Boy that has the SNES game.

Keep them separate.
