VGC gets a PS3
The games I bought: Resistance, Ridge Racer 7, Blazing Angels. Didn't really see much else that piqued my interest. Stay tuned.
PS: Still haven't seen any Wii's around here.

Well, it sounds like you picked up the best games you could for the system, and I await reading your opinions on those titles.

If you liked Full Auto for the 360 chances are you will like Full Auto 2. Good game especially with a bud.

The console is pretty heavy and fairly quiet. I touch-sensitive eject and power buttons are cool. I like how the system sucks in the disk, so you don't need to set it in a tray. The controllers feel lightweight and cheap, but they work very well, and I like the recharge feature. Set-up was no problem.
In terms of games, the graphics are on par with the 360, but look less polished. The load times are also comparable to the 360, which translates to not very good.
Resistance: Very impressive first-person combat game. Crisp graphics on par with Call of Duty 2. Good controls and ugly monsters. I don't think it's as good as Gears of War, but time will tell.
Blazing Angels: Only played the training stage so far which was pretty boring.
Ridge Racer 7: This is a heck of a lot like Ridge Racer 6, except the graphics are jaggy!! Still, the gameplay is great.
In terms of game packaging, the cases look cheap with the clear, empty plastic part on top. Still, the booklets fit in nicely, the disks are easy to remove, and I like the more compact size.

[/QUOTE]I agree with Shawn...You really seemed to dig the first Full Auto and the sequel might just make you happy. Like the first game its receieving lukewarm reviews, but I think it looks like a fantastic arcade racer.
Critic, just curious which version did you end up with? 60gb or 20gb? Also where have you had luck finding them...Thanks!

RR7 is the same as RR6 but with a small number of extra tracks and improved online modes.
Shockingly the graphics on RR7 are worse than the year old RR6:

Hey Critic, you should check out Untold Legends: Dark Kingdom for the PS3. You seem to like dungeons crawlers based on your reviews (Baldur's Gate, D&D Heroes, Lodoss War) and this might be a game that you can really enjoy. Again it has been getting mediocre reviews, mainly because it has a flawed camera system and doesn't add much to the genre. Yet if you have a hankering for a next gen Gauntlet type game it might be able to satisfy you.
I would love to see your take on a game like that. I know you have a ton on your PS3 plate, but I figured I would toss that one out there.

Critic I don't know if you are a movie buff but when you get a chance slap in a Blue Ray movie and watch it on your Hi-Def tv (I think you have one). I personally think there is a huge difference between that and standard DVD's. I think it is pretty impressive to say the least.

One thing I must say is that I am surprised that the PS3 is so readily available. I mean, I spoke to one of my "connections" at gamespot and he said that typically it takes 2 to 3 days to move about 4 or 5 PS3's. I don't think this is terrible but when I asked about Wii's he said they move the same day (if not within a few hours). I personally think this has so much to do with price and the time of year but man I hope for Sony's sake they didn't make a massive error in judgement. Personally, I don't think $600 is too much b/c of what you are getting but not everybody does.
I think at the end of the day the PS3 will sell well I am just surprised that it is sitting on the shelves right now. I want one but I am waiting a bit longer.

I think it has been an error. Well actually a series of errors. I think the name is really strong though, and it'll probably be like the N64. When you look at it, the N64 might not have been as dominante as Nintendo wanted, but it did turn a nice profit, and it still sold in numbers similar to the SNES, just not in a ratio with the competition like they were used to. Sony may see their ratio advantage shrink, but they'll likely do pretty well and live to fight another day. In fact, given how far they have to fall, it's possible for them to do poorly by their standards and still outsell the competition.
I don't think it's only a small problem though, as a launch where systems are left lying around for any reason is an advantage for the competition, which makes it hard to catch up, which makes it hard to interest third partes, which makes it hard to sell units, which again makes it hard to catch up, etc. With a slow launch, it is unlikly they can recover to the point of having as huge a lead as the PS2 and PS1 did. I mean, those systems were on top pretty quickly once they launched. Once again though, given the unpreceded lead the PS2 and PS1 had over the competition, it was unlikely they could have matched that again anyway (as 100 million+ consoles in three generations in a row has to be, at least, statistically unlikely).
