Starfox Ass....ualt

Gee....

I FINALLY picked this game up at Best Buy after watching the trailer (why were they showing a trailer for this game in 2006???- plus they only had one left), and I had talked myself out of buying this one for years. I should have listened to my inner voice, because I know its not news, but this game sucks. The on foot missions are not fun- they remind me of early Star Wars Jedi games for the PC, only uglier. The one flight mission I played through was absolutely great. Why oh why did they try to fix this game?

You all know how much I love Starfox 64, but this game is a peas of poo.

Looks like Sonic is falling on hard times... but this series is spiraling downward fast too.

That leaves me this question. Do you think Starfox Command good? Is it a tactics game?

Axiously awaiting..........

I just got Star Fox assualt and have only played it for about 30 minutes, so I can't give a complete analysis yet, so here are my very first thoughts.

Controls:  Does every have to use the touch screen?   This game forces you to use the touch screen as it has no Dpad controls.  Comeon, the dpad would work fine.   You control the touch screen like a joystick, and is certainly accurate, but it is awkward to use.   I would rather just use the Dpad, so why can't I have that choice?

Graphics -  Looks amazing.  Looks just like a portable star fox 64.

Sound - What happened to the voice overs.   Instead of using actual voices, it instead uses random beeps and boops for voices like the original star fox.

Missions -   These missions seem lame, and it almost seems like they were concieved by a random mission generator.

Overall this game seems like a huge disappointment especially considering its supposed to be the true sequel to star fox 64.   Hopefully it improves, but I doubt it.  I will let oyu know after I play some more.

Starfox Ass....ualt

I gave the game a favorable review in the reader review section. It's a fun little game with w-fi support for battling online (but seriously, those Nintendo wi-fi gamers always seem to be ridiculously good).

The "tactical" portion of the game is extremely brief and doesn't really interfere with the action. I would really hesitate to call it a tactics game at all.

I have to agree with you on Starfox Assault. I rented it when it first came out and was pretty dissapointed. If you could take the control  and level design of Starfox 64 and combine it with the musical score and overall 'feel' of the original, you would have the perfect Starfox game. And, please, Nintendo, don't be afraid to leave the voice acting and the crappy cinemas on the cutting room floor. All the CG's in the GC version were a complete waste of time. Not every game needs a 'story', and lets face it, Nintendo is poor at executing them.

I haven't heard enough good things about Starfox Assault for me to want to pick that up, either. Hopefully, the Wii wil turn things around.

I think you've mistaken Star Fox: Assualt (a Gamecube game) with Star Fox: Command (for the DS).  Personally, I enjoyed Assault for what it was.  It could have used a bit of tweaking for some of the controls (particularly on-foot), but it gave the same intense brand of shooting action as the N64 game did.  Plus, the graphics were nice and the audio presentation was of the impeccable quality that I expected Nintendo to put into all their Gamecube titles, not just Super Smash Bros. Melee and this.

Really? Man those cut scenes were painful to listen too. I agree with whoever said: we don't need much of a story for Starfox games. The on rails flight sim thing is unique, and the flying levels in these games have always always been awesome. No need for 3 minutes of dialouge.

I also miss the branching paths featured in the earlier games with the ability to finish the mission or actually defeat the mission. That adds lots of replay value. Very unique.
