a's right. You can slam balls in Wii tennis. You just have to flick the controller in the right way. Actually, the more I've played Wii tennis, the more subtle variations on how to apply english to the ball become apparent.
Yep.  I can corroborate all of that.  In fact, if you plan on winning *any* matches against someone level 1000 or higher, you had better learn how to use all of the subtleties of the controller.  You will need them or you will get your arse kicked.

Shawn, why do you automatically assume somebody hates Sony when they have a few problems with a system they put out? If you read Critic's console reviews, you'll notice that the ps1 scored MUCH higher than the N64 in almost every category, same goes for the ps2...so much for your logic of Dave hating Sony, eh? Also, why would somebody who hates Sony so much go out, on a whim, and purchase a $600 console?! Also, it's my attitude that, if I spend $600 on ANYTHING, I'd better be impressed! I understand that Sony is giving tech-nuts a great deal by including what could POSSIBLY be the next wave with blu-ray technology but it falls on deaf ears for people who simply want to play! I don't think anybody on here really hates Sony, but I think many would acknowledge that, like Nintendo, Sony has made some really STUPID decisions as of late! Also, just so you don't think I'm singling Sony out, may I point out that Atari, Coleco, Nintendo, Sega, 3DO, and even Microsoft have also made very stupid decisions throughout the years! Face it, bub, your company is far from perfect and so is everybody else's!! This isn't about retarded "fanboy-ism," it really falls under the idea that no company has ever had a completely flawless run, especially not through three straight generations!

I like your site but only put any faith on old reviews. Somewhere along the line I think you lost your objectivity and I am not sure if I can trust a person who hates Sony as much as you do.

Shawn,

Do you want the truth?!  YOU CAN'T HANDLE THE TRUTH!!

I bought my Playstation 1 in November 1995, camped out on the concrete for a PS2, and just invested about a grand in the PS3.  Between them all, I own over 450 Playstation games.  Yeah I really HATE Sony, don't I?!  I must be totally biased against them.  I can't be objective at all.

How many people bought the PS3 for its Blu-ray capabilities?!  Yeah, I'm really looking to upgrade my perfectly good DVD collection with movies that cost twice as much.

As for the motion detection, I've tried it on both systems, and there's no comparison.

And if you call that "launch" anything but an unmitigated disaster you are truly in denial.  Even the most loyal Playstation publications lambasted Sony for that debacle.

I'd go on, but you labelled most of my criticisms as "legit", so I guess you don't have much of an argument.

I'm sure the PS3 has a bright future (nowhere to go but up), but after dominating for 10 years, I think Sony has inadvertently leveled the playing field for the next generation of video games.

Once again, the VGC freakin' nails it.  Biased?  If anything, as the owner of darn near EVERY VIDEOGAME SYSTEM EVER MADE and more games than you'll find in a typical Gamestop store, he has an objectivity and historical perspective that few others can hope to attain.  When Sony comes out with something great, he'll say it's great.  When they come out with something that's crap, he'll say it's crap.  Shawn, you sound like one of those ridiculously partisan political supporters who can never see any wrong in the party they support and never see any good in the party they oppose.  Open your eyes.  Sony revolutionized the videogame industry with the original Playstation but started to squander that goodwill and industry-leading focus with the PS2.  With the PS3, they've fixed some previous issues but introduced new ones.  If you're happy with the PS3 then good for you, but don't let it blind you to the OBVIOUS problems that linger over the system and certainly don't lash at the VGC for telling it like it is.  Sony is on the verge of being knocked off their pedestal once and for all owing to their continued arrogance, and they have no one to blame but themselves.

The 360 launch line up was graphically more impressive than the PS3 launch line up and the PS3 has come out a YEAR LATER.  The 360 had tons more, better games at launch.
Agreed.  I mean, I was one of the people most down on the 360 launch, but having seen the PS3 launch, I have to say, the 360 launch was VERY solid.  Kameo may not quite be Zelda, but it is an exclusive adventure game that looks pretty good and has an interesting dynamic.  Perfect Dark Zero may have a lot of issues as far as most people are concerned, but it was still a new Perfect Dark game that you couldn't get anywhere else.  Also, shortly after launch it got the new DOA here.  What is it that Sony has done since November with the PS3 that is supposed to impress me again?

p0wned! Nice counter-punch.

I might add that some people love the PS3 due to "all of this potential." Is that not why many of us here are excited about the Wii, the potential? Is the potential for interesting new gameplay with different control at least as valid as the potential of powerful cell processors?

Hey critic, I did not know this.   Does this include the lightguns?   Specifically, this light gun you showed me?  http://www.erealgames.com/   Have you tried them on the PS3 yet?   If not could you please check them out for me if you have any laying around right now because I'd really like to know this, and I can't find any websites to tell me. Thanks

And about the lack of rumble, it is truly pathetic.  What that means is that when I get a PS3, which may be years considering the price, I will probably continue to buy multiplatform games on the 360 because of rumble.   Imagine playing Rockstar's Table tennis without rumble?  Must be horrible. And don't forget the gamerscore points, which is just awesome.

And about the price of the PS3, it is a great value if you want a blu Ray player, but it's a horrible value if you don't want one on.   I assume most people fall into the "don't want one" category, so Sony messed up with the Price of the PS3.  I expect Sony to lose several million customers to Microsoft because of this messup.

The PS3 has no controller ports, so unless there's a PSX/PS2 USB controller adapter (I believe there is), I don't see how they could work (And even if such a thing exists, there is no guarantee it would work with everything, I seem to recall IGN reporting issues with the PS2 guitar for example when used on a PS3).

Lightguns connect through the USB port so I think there is a chance it will work on PS3.
