I might add that some people love the PS3 due to "all of this potential."

[/QUOTE]

You have to be careful about using "potential" as a selling point for a system.  Those of you around in the mid-90's may remember that Sega and it's fans swore up and down that the Saturn was more powerful than the Playstation, and once developers harnessed the "potential" of its duel-processor architecture, its games would blow away the Playstation.  But of course it never happened.

At least with the Wii, there's potential for new gameplay possibilities.  With the PS3, it looks like we'll be playing the same PS2 titles with slightly upgraded graphics. Big deal!  You could say the same for the Xbox 360, but at least when it was introduced in 2005, it was pretty innovative.

Not sure where to begin but here are a few:
- Outrageously priced - can't argue with this.

BULL - Considering you get a Blue Ray player it is CHEAP!

- Controller's motion detection mechanism doesn't compare to the Wii

Perhaps but the Wii's motion detection isn't that immersive anyway. Have you tried "slamming" a ball in Wiisports tennis? Can't do it! How about the wonderful control for Red Steel and Farcry - pathetic! Wow! I can really swordfight in Red Steal - NOT!

- Overhyped.  Sony said it would be revolution, but just offers better-looking version of standard games

Bull - this system is amazing.

I like your site but only put any faith on old reviews. Somewhere along the line I think you lost your objectivity and I am not sure if I can trust a person who hates Sony as much as you do.

BULL!!!

Blu-Ray is failing compared to HD-DVD because it is inferior.  Who want's to pay that kind of money for a failing format?  My HD DVD player was $400.  And if you only want the system for the games, what's the point?

You used the two WORST games for the Wii to compare its motion sensing abilities to that of the Sony.  That's fair.  There's much better examples of the control of the Wiimote, and you know it.

The system is amazing?  That's your retort?  It may be amazing, but you are missing Dave's point.  It's no more amazing than the 360, and from what they were saying pre-release, it should have been head and shoulders above the rest.  From what I've seen, the 360 has better graphics anyways.

Dave's not biased against Sony, it's just that you're so biased for them that it just appears that way.

p0wned! Nice counter-punch.

I might add that some people love the PS3 due to "all of this potential." Is that not why many of us here are excited about the Wii, the potential? Is the potential for interesting new gameplay with different control at least as valid as the potential of powerful cell processors?

I see potentially fun games for the future on the PS3, but the launch was awful. Potential is a bad reason to buy a system; I think you should wait on it if all you see is potential (unless you have a lot of money, or review games). I happen to like my Wii because it is fun now.

I guess if I was Shawn I wouldn't want to respond to any of this and just hope the thread dies as fast as possible.  When you get owned this bad on a thread you should probably just retreat.

The PS3 sucks right now--that's the bottom-line. I have one, and haven't played it since the day I bought it. Why? Because their launch games are weak, weak, weak--with one exception. GoW is IMHO unquestionably better than R:FoM, and XBL is undeniably better than Sony's no-voice online system.

My point was that Shawn seems intoxicated by the PS3's potential, and that seems to be a part of his reasoning.

The difference with the Wii's potential is that it realizes some of it right out of the box with Wii sports. So not only do you have the hope of truly amazing gameplay later, but you already get it when you buy the thing.

Sorta why I gave the system an "A" for its launch, eh?

- Terrible launch that was delayed several times

BULL - Just as good as the 360's. Delayed several times? Who cares.

- System supports HD but includes no HD cable.  And they're really hard to find.

Legit - they should be included

- Controller's motion detection mechanism doesn't compare to the Wii

Perhaps but the Wii's motion detection isn't that immersive anyway. Have you tried "slamming" a ball in Wiisports tennis? Can't do it! How about the wonderful control for Red Steel and Farcry - pathetic! Wow! I can really swordfight in Red Steal - NOT!

- Launch games not very impressive - and most are ports

Legit - so was the 360's. Many GREAT games on the way in 2007, wish I could say the same about the Wii.

- To read your memory PS1 and PS2 memory cards, need to buy separate adaptor!

- Legit but I could care less.

- Overhyped.  Sony said it would be revolution, but just offers better-looking version of standard games

Bull - this system is amazing.

- Online service doesn't compare to Xbox according to recent Playstation magazine.

Not sure but how the hell would you know or why would you care "Mr. I hate online play. By the way, Resistance online play (not co-op) is ten time better then Gears.

- Not 100% backwards compatible and does not support old peripherals

- This can be fixed and will be. Many more games backward compatible then the 360 at launch.

Man, I gotta say I side with the Critic on most of this. You sound like a guy about to lose an arguement and you are seconds away from storming out of the room and throwing an inatimate object.

Go take 5

The Worst part is assuming that the Critic hates Sony because he isn't singing the PS3's praises.  That's stupid.

Agreed.

When the PS3 has an awesome game or two (and of course they'll have that and more), the Critic will certainly say so. He has given tons of love to Sony throughout this site. It's ridiculous to even argue otherwise when all you have to do is look at the man's reviews to see tremendous scores for most of the major PS2 hits, and an extremely complimentary system review for both the PS1 and PS2.

Of course, the reason he gave those systems good reviews is they deserved them. They were great systems, I owned both, loved em' both. They just are off to a bad start! It happens! Companies make stumbles and missteps, especially after huge, huge success. You can see that in about every industry.

Just to chime in on the Blu-ray thing have you seen they are not letting anyone manufacture porn on the format?  Good luck with that one Sony.
