BULL!!!

Blu-Ray is failing compared to HD-DVD because it is inferior.  Who want's to pay that kind of money for a failing format?  My HD DVD player was $400.  And if you only want the system for the games, what's the point?

Though Shawn claimed he's leaving and I'm sure it's for the better without the incredibly explosive fanboyism, it should be pointed out that Blu-Ray is outselling HD-DVD almost 3-to-1...

That's a recent occurrance and solely due to the rise in PS3s.  Who exactly are you by the way MrChupon?  Shawn is a regular but I have no idea who you are.

Given the disaster that is PS3 sales in the last few months, HD-DVD must be on pretty shaky ground if PS3 sales can push it into the background, even in the short-term.  Still, I think that you are probably right.  UMD sales were high early on too... Bluray could be the PS3's UMD.

In any case, the article he linked had more to say about it, suggesting that Bluray will become the standard by 2009, with HD-DVD being a more transitional version in the interrim.  I hate predictions that far in advance personally, so I figure we won't know for a while.  Not that it really matters.  I have my HD-DVD drive for my 360 and Bluray comes built-in to Sony's expensive behemoth, so I'll be good either way.

A friend of mine from Gamespot.  I've been talking about this place a lot with him, and he's been a lurker in the sense that he's read posts for a while now.

its too early for either format to take hold as HDTV has yet to break the 50% market penetration plateau. both formats are still stuck in the high-end/videophile market. there will be no rush to a next gen format until that penetration is well over 50%

That's the first article I've read that has said that.  I'll have to see if PS3 games are fitting into those numbers or something, cause everything I've read has said the exact opposite.  Those may just be numbers for a certain quarter of fiscal year or something.

Pardon me - this is only for 2007. Big detail that I left out - my bad. I was equally surprised to see that too. However, it's the start of a potential trend and that still says something. (I'll uh, be over there watching DVDs...)

Let me clarify that I also hope both formats either fail or fall into a unified standard. I think the format war is a waste of time, effort and breath. I'm neither for Blu-Ray nor HD-DVD - I was just trying to provide some objective facts with that article.

Oh and bluemonkey, what m0zart said. I decided to jump in because m0zart was showing me the really stupid, baseless comments made by you-know-who on another thread (titled "Wii is for old people"). I frequent Gamespot, where you're not really allowed to be a jerk when you see someone saying moronic things, so I thought I'd give this a try
