Hello,
I'm interested in knowing about some good fighting games that are easy to play and not terribly complex. By that, I mean fighters that don't have tons of moves like VF or Tekken, and don't have crazy combos and hard to do specials, like Guilty Gear X2.
So please list any good fighters that fit this category.
I'll name a couple: Plasma Sword, Super Smash Bros.,Power Stone.

Barbarian for the PS2... its like a 3D Smash Brothers Melee type game. Soul Caliber 2 is a button masher: you don't really have to know what you are doing in that one to do some cool stuff.

You might like the Dead or Alive series of fighters. They have depth, but are simpler to get into than something more complicated. Plus they have some of the best graphics you'll see anywhere.

Except the AI will hand your butt to you on a plate by countering your moves all the time in Dead or Alive so it's not really pick up and play.
Ready 2 Rumble: Simplistic controls , no combos. But a hidden depth which you could explore if you wanted. Great party game.
Soul Calibur and Bloody Roar 2 are two fighters that have combos and moves but which are easy to pick up without practicing.

Wait, wait, wait, you want a fighting game that doesn't have any combos and is increadibly easy? Hey you know what? I don't think you don't want to play fighting games.

I think SSX might be right...you might actually want to play wrestling games (Revenge, World Tour--64)

Hey, you could just turn the difficulty level down. I know that sounds trite, but many gamers forget that's an option (out of a sense of pride). Games are meant to be enjoyed, and if that means playing something on easy mode, so be it.

Certainly you don't want to play Day of Reckoning 1 or 2 for Gamecube though. I've never seen a fighting game where the computer player countered so often (it attempts to counter every second move or every third punch). Honestly, you play a long time before you have any kind of chance in this one, and then only because you learn to counter all the computer's moves in response to its counters of your moves.

It always felt like doing that defeated the whole point of playing a game. Especially in a genre where the challenge and skill is the entire reason most people play them to start out with.

Ooga Booga for the Dreamcast is a pretty good multiplayer fighting game. Also in that same vein, Poy Poy for the Playstation - an often overlooked gem.
