New Bunny Rabbit Icon!

Postby VideoGameCritic » December 11th, 2019, 8:14 pm

This icon was inspired by the Gun-Nac feedback thread, and created by Mark Jewell.

I had some fun with this. I did a little text search of my reviews to find appropriate games, and readers in the Gun-Nac thread let me in on some of the more obscure rabbit appearances.

Here's what I got so far - open to suggestions!

PS: I'm still holding out hope I'll one day have an eggplant icon!

In The Legend Of Zelda: A Link To The Past, Link turns into a bunny when he first enters the dark world. There's also the Bunny Hood in Ocarina Of Time and Majora's Mask, as well as every Smash game starting with Melee. Then there are the rabbits in Super Mario 64 and the Broodals in Mario Odyssey.

And if you do ever introduce the eggplant icon, this article is a great resource for eggplants in NES games, though just as a warning, there is a lot of swearing: http://sydlexia.com/eggplants_of_the_nes.htm

Thanks for providing the link! I've noticed an oddly high occurrence of eggplants in video games, but I can never remember where I saw them!

Indeed! Thanks for the link, LoganRuckman.

Off the top of my head, I could only think of Eggplant Wizard from Kid Icarus, and maybe one of the characters from Princess Tomato and the Salad Kingdom. I figured there was bound to be more, and, well, there is!

The more you know...

If the eggplant icon does becomes a reality, here's some games you have already reviewed that will contribute to this cause:
There's an eggplant item during the bonus stage of Ice Climber (NES). The Super Smash Bros. games (Brawl and onwards) has an eggplant food item that can be consumed for health (in Melee the Eggplant Wizard from Kid Icarus is a trophy you can collect). The Eggplant Wizard is in both the GameBoy sequel and the 3DS Kid Icarus games. There's eggplant people in Wrecking Crew (NES). In the first few Adventure Island games, eggplants attack you if you let them follow you. Boy, Nintendo sure had a thing for Eggplants in the NES days! The Dig-Dug games had eggplants as items you can collect for points. You can summon eggplants in Scribblenauts (DS). You can get an eggplant costume from an eggplant creature in Chibi-Robo (GameCube). There's also eggplant creatures that randomly appear in certain minigames throughout the WarioWare series.

I just got a Switch a couple of days ago with my employee discount and I'm playing Super Mario Odyssey (my local library has video games you can check out - I wonder how common this has become?) and even though I just started, it seems that you have boss battles against an entire family of rabbit-like creatures.

I used to really enjoy SydLexia. There wasn't much new the last time I checked the site a year or two ago, but I should go back and browse a bit for old time's sake.
