Hate the fricken' BLUE SHELL!!!

Postby Paul Campbell » January 20th, 2007, 11:44 pm

I love Mario Kart 64 and Double Dash, but whose idea was it back at Nintendo to make a Blue Shell that is typically launched by one of the last place people to knock out the first place person, only to knock him out and help the people in second and third blow by him.  What is the point of that?  Punishing you for being good?  It never helps the person that launched it.  Why don't they just have the person in first place get randomly knocked down to fourth a couple times a game?  Is there any way to avoid the Blue Shell at all so I have less reason to be frustrated?

Live with it, and wait for an item switch to be added.

Thanks for the tip.

My point is, is there any reason for them to put it in there?  Why would they put it in there?

Here's better advice. If you hear a blue shell coming, and second place is close behind, slam the brakes so second is hit just as badly as you are (if you can get more cars do that). You can't avoid it, but if you do that you won't lose as many places.

Hey guys I'm new here so treat me well and the men in white coats said you guys can be my friends .
Anyway on topic, i don't really see a reason why they'd put it in apart from levelling multiplayer matches so a completely useless player has a fighting (read ever-so-so-slightly annoying) chance.

Yeah, that weapon bugs me too.  It'd make more sense if every weapon you had while in last or second last place effected every player and not just first.  When you're in last and you use the shell, you'll still be in last.  It doesn't help you in any way, so it's terrible for the first place player and terrible for the person who launched it.  Last and second last should always get speed boosts and things like the lightning that shrinks everyone and the blinding ink (DS version).  PacMan World Rally has the problem addressed by giving you a shield (seperate from other weapons so it doesn't take a slot) for when things like this home in on you.  You earn shields by sliding and can have three at a time.

Yeah, come to think of it, that blue shell is awfully cheap.  I mean, it always seems to hit the frontrunner without fail.  You'd at least think it would have a chance of nailing somebody else on the way.  I'm sure it's just Nintendo's way of keeping races closer and more exciting, but I don't like it.

I've actually managed to dodge the shell twice. Once with the star and once when I slid into a hole for a alternate route. I hate the lighting more than the shell. We like to use my action replay to make the items appear ramdomly. That means that any character can get any item. It's more fun to me but some races you can get nailed with that shell 3 or 4 times.

Being someone that's absolutely terrible at Mario Kart in multiplayer, I always relished the opportunity to unleash the blue turtle shell of hell on my friends.  There's something incredibly satisfying about knocking someone out of 1st place even if you're so far back that you have no chance at all.

So, sucks to be 1st, awesome to be in last.

Maybe, that's why Mario Kart was always so fun in multiplayer?  Everyone always has a good time.
