Add your Wii impressions, anticipated games

     I rented Monkeyball and Rayman for my Wii this weekend, and I can't say I was too impressed by either.

     I got used to using the Wiimote for monkeyball fairly quickly, but  while it was way better than DSMonkeyball, (which I though was nigh unplayable), I didn't think it was better than the analog stick, and wished I could have used that instead. It is kind of an uncomfortable feeling in your wrist to tilt the wimote down to move foward. Turning kind of sucks, too.

     I liked Rayman even less. Not to be harsh, but  the minigames were pretty well unispired at best and some were just simply really poor. I'll admit I am not that far into the game, but really have no desire to go any further.

     Wii sports is a great game, ( in my radical opinion, it should have been a GOTY contender) and I have Wiiplay preordered. I plan on checking out Heatseekers, BWii and SMGalaxy. What games are the rest of you waiting for?

I have not played Monekyball, mostly because I am not much of a fan of the series to begin with.  But I love Rayman.  You are right about some of the minigames being uninspired, especially the one where you are sliding your guy around an ice rink trying not to let him touch anyone else, but some of them are REALLY good, and I love the humor of the game.  The FPS level-ending games are really fun to go back and play with a friend, and the one where you have to slap the singing Bunny that is out of tune cracked me up.  I don't think it's an amazing or legendary game, but I have definitely had alot of fun with it, especially after beating certain levels and then going back to play them with friends.

The FPS levels and dancing levels are great, and that singing bunny level is hilarious. The game is designed to be played with 2 or more people. It's best if you have someone else to laugh at the games with you.

I agree with the other guys that Rayman and Monkeyball NEED to be played with other people to really enjoy them.  In fact I won't play Rayman without at least one more person.  If you are planning on getting Warioware I would add that to the list of multiplayer required for enjoyment. 

 

These are the games that I am most looking foward to in the upcoming months.

 

Warioware Smooth Moves - After this I should have enough party games to satisfy my friends and I for the rest of the year.

 

The Godfather: Blackhand Edition - the videos look REALLY fun

 

Sonic and the Secret Rings - Sites have me hyped up for this one, hopefully it wont disapoint.  It looks somewhat promising though.

 

Tiger Woods 07 - I hate Wii sports golf, so this is a no brainer for me.  Barring awful reviews this is one I will pick up the week it comes out.

 

No More Heroes - Suda 51's next Nintendo project looks to retain the art style of Killer 7 while adding some much needed boosts in gameplay.  Niiiice.

 

Super Smash Bros Brawl - My biggest beef with SSBM was the lack of people who wanted to play the game with me.  Online play should fix that, plus I've always wanted to maim Pickachu with Solid Snake.

 

Mario Strikers Charged - I missed out on the gamecube version of this title, so if this gets solid reviews I will make sure to pick it up.

 

Battalion Wars 2 - I really loved the first Battalion Wars.  It was a fun, but flawed experience.  Hopefully Kuju Entertainment can fix the problems of the first game and make this a Wii owners dream come true.

 

Mortal Kombat Armageddon - Again I missed this game for the current gen, but if this version gets good reviews I will be getting it.  I just watched a video on gamespot in which series creater Ed Boon showcased the Wii controls.  It looks like it might turn out pretty decent. 

 

Super Mario Galaxy - I haven't loved a Mario game since Super Mario World, so I am expecting big things out of this title.  Lets hope it lives up to the enormous amount of hype surrounding it.

 

 

 

Anyone who doesn't already own or hasn't already played The Legend of Zelda: A Link to the Past needs to download it from the VC.  It was released yesterday and for $8 its an absolute steal.  Go buy it now.

Picked up a Wii on Sunday and so far am loving it.  Raving Rabbits rocks.  I loved the tossing a cow minigame.  The shooting levels make for a hectic and fast paced laughathon. 

 

The only game so far that I wasn't that impressed with was Zelda.  With only an hour into it, I can only hope it picks up the pace as at this point it's a snoozeathon.  The graphics are definitely amazing though.

The first part of Zelda is a training part of the game.  It goes a bit slow, especially the beginning miniquests inside of Link's hometown.  Still, I wouldn't have it any other way.  I actually enjoyed that part.  The game actually has two opening-up points.  The first is after training.  The second is after the first few dungeons.  The pace picks up considerably after each of these.

Yea the first couple of hours in that game suck hard.  Its very tedious and boring.  For me the game really kicked into high gear once I got to the second dungeon.  Then it became an addiction for me.

 

Again once you get past the first couple of hours the game really starts to pick up...I think you will enjoy it.

 

Did you get any other games yet?  I recommend Madden, Trauma Center and Metal Slug Anthology.

Here are the games I'm looking forward to (in no particular order):

 

Super Smash Bros. Brawl-Do I need to explain this? I figure with the amount of characters, levels, modes and extras in the Gamecube Smash Bros. there is a lot for Brawl to live up to. This probably means it will be overloaded with features.

 

Super Mario Galaxy-No FLUDD, no problem.

 

Metroid Prime 3- I didn't care too much for the first Metroid Prime, but I read a list of an ign Wii editors 10 most anticipated games and he said he also didn't care for it, but he was still really hyped for this. No lock-on and more action might make me a Metriod Prime fan. I'll wait until I see reviews before I buy it, though.

 

Batallion Wars 2- Never played the first, but I love Advance Wars, and this one is supposed to be better than the original.

 

Sonic and the Secret Rings-I am less looking forward to this than I am the idea that a 3d Sonic could actually be fun. I was skeptic of the game at first, but every preview I have read has been filled with praise so now I'm going to wait for it with hopeful anticipation. If the reviews any higher than 8/10 I'll probably get it.

 

(As a side note: I have yet to see any kind of Wii controller in stores)
