Just read something down at IGN.com regarding the current status of the various games being made into movies.
The good:
Castlevania. Being shot in the real Transylvania, it seems that this is a project that is being taken seriously. Looking forward to this one.
Dead or Alive: Completed, and coming soon to either a quickie budget theater run or a straight to video release. I'm considering this "good" because I am expecting a movie that blows apart the "unintentional comedy" scale. The picture on IGN.com alone is worth laughs. If you are going to make a crappy movie based on a game, at least go all out on the cheese factor (and really, what else could you do with a movie based on DOA anyhow?). It appears as though they got it right, based on the ridiculous looking production photos.
MechWarrior: In development, and a cool idea. Huge robots shooting stuff, I mean, c'mon, who doesn't want that? As IGN points out, if Transformers does well at the box office, MechWarrior will be full speed ahead.
The bad:
BloodRayne 2
Uwe Boll must be stopped. The man has no less than four different video game adaptions on the way, and we all know they are going to be crap. Why will this movie be terrible? Here's a quote from the article:
The story tells what happens when Rayne comes to the early American West and faces off with vampire Billy the Kid.
Hitman
When Vin Diesal turns you down, you know you have a stinker. Yikes.
What did surprise me is all the optioned movie rights out there. Even Crazy Taxi has had movie rights purchased, though most of these projects listed are considered dead. I do wish someone would make a Metroid movie (the rights have been optioned as well). As long as they don't try to overplay the Samus Aran hotness angle (I wouldn't mind being reminded that she's a woman, however
), I think something really compelling could be done with that IP. You could do a movie that resembled Ridley Scott's Alien.
