If Genesis controllers are compatible with the 2600 I'm going to go on ebay and find some 2600 games and a console. The only thing I didn't like about it was the joystick.

Don't these work with it?  I think the 2600 and 7800 stuff is completely interchangeable (I only play on the 7800, so I'm not sure how things work on an actual 2600).

A normal atari joystick is just five momentary switches, so most controllers that have nine-pin plugs will work on the atari 2600, and the ones that don't can be rewired pretty easily.  Commodore 64, Master System, Genesis, and 7800 sticks work without any modifications (there are probably more that I don't know about.)

I've just got an atari recently and that's one of my favorite things about it.  It's easy to make controllers from scratch too.
