007 James Bond Games

Postby VideoGameCritic » April 24th, 2020, 12:07 pm

I'm a big James Bond fan, especially the movies starring Daniel Craig. I was thinking that since the next film No Time To Die was pushed back until November that gives me time to put together a James Bond review special. I only have a handful of James Bond games reviewed as of today. Any recommendations?

I should also mention I'm currently reviewing Quantum of Solace for the PS3. It's not bad.

The Goldeneye Remake on the Wii was pretty good.

I can't really give you any specific recommendations, but if you're looking to pad out a review special, you might want to begin with the PS2 / GC / Xbox Bond games. There a quite a few of them, and I believe they are generally considered to be fairly high quality.

I've only played one - Everything or Nothing - and truth be told, I was disappointed in it, but that was mainly because I thought it was going to be a first-person shooter and instead was third-person. It's been quite a few years since I've played it, and I should probably give it another try since I now know what to expect.

they stopped making them when Craig got the job. All of the iconic Bond movies are in the past. It is the same as well for the games. The last one I remember was Bloodstone on Xbox 360. EA lost the license and Craptivision got it. They made a stand alone game which has awesome driving. It was good but not actually being based on a Bond movie was not the best idea.

Then there were the funcom games. They thought that they could capture the spirit of the rare games when they made Golden eye. The could not. I had it on xbox and it was hopeless and DS. I played the multiplayer game with my pal. It was good fun.. I guess coz I won.
I think they made quantum of solace and bond legends both were average.

If you want one out of left field there was 007 Racing on PS1. I've never played it, so I can't vouch how good/bad it is, but whenever I've seen any videos about people doing PS Classic or Pi builds it always seems to be there.

YES! I've been asking for this!

I'd first recommend Nightfire, Everything or Nothing, and From Russia with Love. I played them all on PS2, but they are on all the consoles.

Bloodstone (PS3), Agent Under Fire (PS2), and Quantum of Solace (PS3) were the next tier. I have yet to try all the versions, but apparently QoS is different on each system, which could make for an interesting portion of the review special.

The Goldeneye remakes were fun to play, even if they were a little disconcerting to see - slightly off-putting to see something you know so well, that isn't quite what you know.

007 Legends is pretty bad. They took an awesome promise and really mucked it up hard.

If you want something that's different, check out the homebrew of Goldfinger for the N64. You can buy it on a cart with a box and manual, even. It's buggy, and the level quality varies pretty significantly, but it's a heck of an achievement and follows the movie beat for beat.

Looking forward to the review, even though I expect the games won't actually get good grades!

The original 007 Gameboy game.

A late '98 release for the system, I've seen it called both an underrated gem and the worst Zelda style game in 8-bit. It looks like a launch title, and people still argue over whether it does justice to the license.

But it's not just the minimal graphics that make it controversial.

Some seem to enjoy the light puzzle solving. Others complain that they've still never beaten it. It seems like it expects you to think like Bond...at least as much as the rating will allow.

The best graphics of any of the games!! It has to be the atari 2600 version.

They certainly worked hard on that song. And the shaded black and gold Bond logo is pure class.

Between the helicopter searchlights and dramatic leaps over blazing fires, the first 7 seconds of this game admirably capture the thrills of the license.

A pity that's all the James Bond the tiny cartridge could contain.

It's no Moon Patrol, that's for sure.

Really though, everyone knows the best James Bond simulator in the 80's was the Famicom version of Golgo 13. Between the actual intelligence gathering, varied methods of killing, and gratuitous nudity, all that was missing was the luxury porn and bad jokes.
