Battlezone rumors and you

In the Atari arcade game "Battlezone", there were several rumors, among which included things such as driving in one direction for an hour to the effect of getting some weird bonus, driving into the active volcano over the horizon and finding a castle, or shooting a certain number of flying saucers to incur the wrath of an alien mothership.

I know none of these are true. I post for curiosity as well as for other reasons. You see, the first time I ever played Battlezone was on the Playstation Atari collection redux, and I've never even seen the arcade game in physical actuality before, but I was wondering, for certain reasons: did anyone ever try that silly rumor about driving off into the horizon, toward the volcano, and going inside it? I know it doesn't work. I'm just curious if anyone tried or was otherwise allured by such ideas "back in the day".

I never tried it... but since they're trying to bring back Battlezone as a franchise, that would be cool if they did add these things.

Yes, I was one of the idiots that ignored the tanks and tried to drive as FAR as I could (I HATE 3-D GAMES!)... you couldn't of course, it was just a 2-D horizon for effect.

There WAS one trick they had to take out for some reason, shooting the moon or SOMETHING, I'll have to check my books..

I never like Battlezone. Yet another 3-D disaster. Sorry.

Maybe your hatred of Battlezone derived from the fact that you weren't playing it properly?

No, I didn't TRY to play it properly because I never liked 3-D games (back then called first person games)... I admit Battlezone the coin-op and 2600 versions, Activisions Robot Tank, plus games like Starmaster and Starfire (coin-op), not to mention STAR WARS were ALL GOOD GAMES, just not for me. Paint me 2-D!
