Did the Critic ever do a “best soundtracks” list?

Postby Voor » May 30th, 2020, 6:40 pm

I was curious if maybe I missed it.

Perhaps we should create one. We could list our favourites and do a YouTube link etc. Just as the lockdown started I literally did just this with friends over WhatsApp and it was very popular for about a week!

I think we had a thread about this a while back (maybe years) but I never got around to creating an actual page. It might be time to resurrect the idea.

Looking through some old notes I found this, which I guess was supposed to be a starting point.

Music: Zombies, thunder force 3, streets of rage, street fight 2, pitfall 2, realm, ballblazer, ghouls, blaster master, donkey kong country life is strange, zelda link, incredible wizard , road rash, rygar , sonic , super bomberman, tempest 4k, wonder boy outrun goonies bust a groove, marble madness, legendary axe, actraiser, rygar, spy vs spy

I’d nominate Celeste. Very different vibe than most platformers but very motivating

Rygar DOES deserve double mention.

My recent favorites have been Axiom Verge, Alwa's Awakening, and Hollow Knight.

My past favorites have always been Mega Man 2, Castlevania and Simon's Quest, and NES Sunsoft games like Blaster Master, Gremlins 2, and Journey to Silius.

8-bit and 16-bit style music might be my overall favorite music in the world. I've listened to the Alwa's Awakening soundtrack in my car numerous times recently on YouTube. So freaking catchy... (and another recommendation for you, Dave...)

I’ve always liked the Mario 64 soundtrack.

No such list is complete without Metal Slug 4!

Very smart to get Donkey Kong and Sonic on the list from the start.
I'd also have to say Grim Fandango, most of the Silent Hill games, Castlevania Symphony of the Night, Cuphead, Kingdom Hearts, Bayonetta, and Conkers Bad Fur Day (preferable Live and Reloaded with its remastered soundtrack) deserve to be added on.
